Transferring a vehicle’s ownership in case of a normal sale is not as hectic as you think. It is just a simple rule that you must follow. 

You can transfer a vehicle’s ownership both online and offline. All you need to do is provide the required and valid documents to the RTO office. We have mentioned both procedures below. Go through the steps and choose what seems the most suitable for you.

How To Transfer A Vehicle’s Ownership Offline In Surat?

  • Step 1: First, the seller needs to ensure that the preparation of the selling agreement is complete. Here the person needs to mention the details like details about the vehicle’s insurance certificate, driving license details (if required), the status of the ownership transfer of the vehicle, the permanent address of the applicant (if required), the vehicle’s existing Registration certificate, the valid id proof of the buyer(if required), payment mode, and the selling conditions.
  • Step 2: Fill out the RTO forms 20,27, 30, and 33 for re-registration,28 (if you need to issue a NOC), and 29 (if your RTO and the buyer’s RTO are different). When you complete the forms, put your signature on them.

  • Step 1: First, open the ParivahanSewa official website.
  • Step 2: After opening the website, choose the Online Services option. 
  • Step 3: Click the Vehicle-Related Services option. 
  • Step 4: Now, provide the vehicle registration number you want to sell.
  • Step 5: Then click on Proceed.
  • Step 6: Click on the Misc (TO/CoA/HPA/HPS/HPT/DupRC).
  • Step 7: Next, enter your phone number.
  • Step 8: Click on the generate OTP option to get an OTP on your device.
  • Step 9: Enter the OTP after receiving it. 
  • Step 10: Now, press the Show Details option. 
  • Step 11: Now, you will find the Application Selection option. Press that.

  • Step 18: Once you are done with the payment, the RTO starts its document verification.
  • Step 19: When RTO finishes its verification, the buyer receives the new registration certificate via post or email within thirty working days.

Transfer Of Ownership On Death Of The Owner Of The Vehicle:

Selling a 2nd hand vehicle after the owner’s death is not as tricky as you think. You need to issue a succession certificate from the SDM or the regional court and present it to the RTO. But you still need to follow a few steps to transfer the ownership of the vehicle to the new owner. 

  • Step 1: The first thing you need to do is apply for a succession certificate to the SDM or regional court. 
  • Step 2: Now, fill out the required RTO forms (20,27,28,29,30,32 and 33) for Transferring the ownership of the sold vehicle. 
  • Step 3: Provide the necessary documents to the RTO office: the applicant’s valid address proof (PAN, Aadhar or Voter card), a copy of the vehicle’s current Registration certificate, valid id proof of the buyer, the buyer’s passport-size photograph, Pollution Under Control certificate of the vehicle, the previous owner’s death certificate, driving license (if required), the succession letter of the applicant, the vehicle’s insurance details.
  • Step 4: Now, pay the road tax however you prefer.
  • Step 5: Once your tax payment procedure is over, pay for the new Registration Certificate. 
  • Step 6: When you complete your payment, the RTO office initiates its verification of the submitted documents and sends the new Registration certificate to the new owner.

Note: You can only fill out forms 28 and 29 if you need to issue a NOC or your RTO and the buyer’s RTO differ.

Transfer Of Ownership Of Vehicle Purchased In A Public Auction:

  • Step 1: Firstly, the applicant or the seller must fill out RTO forms 20,27,30, 32,33 (for re-registration, Form 28 (for obtaining NOC for interstate vehicle ownership transfer), and Form 29 (if the RTO of the buyer and the seller are different).
  • Step 2: Now, submit the documents required for R.C transfer and the filled-out RTO forms to the RTO office. You need to submit a certified copy of the government’s order showing the permission for the auction, a valid utility bill (phone bill, gas, electricity bill), the sold vehicle’s insurance certificate, any valid id proof of the buyer, a certificate confirming that the car is sold, the applicant’s address proof, the chassis and engine pencil print (if needed), the buyer’s passport size photograph, the buyer’s birth certificate (if required), a copy of the Registration Certificate of the vehicle, the buyer undertaking, and last but not the least PUC Certificate of the vehicle. 
  • Step 3: Now, pay the road tax.
