  • Normal Sale: If you have found a potential buyer and are selling your used car, you need to get the vehicle’s ownership transferred. 
  • Public Auction: Selling a bike or a four-wheeler in a public auction requires transferring the vehicle’s ownership.  
  • Death of the Previous Owner: If the car owner dies and any of the family members sells the car, that person needs to get the vehicle’s ownership transferred.

How To Transfer A Car’s Ownership To The Buyer In Case Of Normal Sale?

Transferring a vehicle’s ownership is more relaxed than you think. You can do it by following both Online and offline methods. 

We have mentioned both methods step-by-step with as much clarity as possible. You can choose any method you want to transfer the ownership of your vehicle.

How To Transfer A Vehicle’s Ownership Offline In Ahmedabad?

  • Step 1: Firstly, the sellers prepare a sale agreement where they mention the insurance details, the status of the ownership transfer, the registration certificate of the vehicle, the payment mode, and the selling conditions.
  • Step 2: Now, the seller and the buyer fill up forms 29 and 30. You must sign two copies of Form 29 and one copy of Form 30.

Note: The applicant needs to submit a NOC to the local RTO if the vehicle loan is continuing or the vehicle is under hypothecation. You can contact the bank manager to issue a NOC to you.

  • Step 3: Next, submit the documents to the RTO required for the ownership transfer. You must submit things like owner address proof, PUC, insurance certificate, registration, toll tax calculator, driving license, etc. 
  • Step 4: If the RTO is not the same or you are doing an interstate vehicle ownership transfer, apply for a clearance certificate.
  • Step 5: Now, submit all the necessary documents to the RTO office.
  • Step 6: The RTO will provide the applicant with an acknowledgment form as proof that all the required documents have been submitted to the RTO office. 
  • Step 7: After the verification of the documents, the RTO office will send a clearance certificate to the buyer. 
  • Step 8: The buyer needs to pay the fees for the R.C. transfer.
  • Step 9: The buyer needs to submit the following documents: NCRB certificate, insurance certificate, Passport-sized photograph of the applicant, clearance certificate from the RTO, address proof of the applicant, form 30, Form 28 (in case you have obtained NOC), self-addressed envelope with stamps, PUC certificate, PAN card, two copies of form 29, registration certificate, etc. 
  • Step 10: After submitting the documents, the RTO office will send another acknowledgment form to the applicant.
  • Step 11: Then after a month, the buyer will receive the new registration certificate via email or post.

How To Transfer A Vehicle’s Ownership Online In Ahmedabad?

Follow the below-mentioned steps to apply for R.C. transfer of a vehicle: 

  • Step 1: Firstly, go to the ParivahanSewa official website. 
  • Step 2: Now, click on the Online Services tab. 
  • Step 3: After clicking on the Online Services, you will get the option: Vehicle Related Services. Click on that. 
  • Step 4: Provide your vehicle’s registration number.
  • Step 5: Now, click on the Proceed button. 
  • Step 6: Next, click on the Misc (TO/CoA/HPA/HPS/HPT/DupRC).
  • Step 7: After clicking the Misc, you need to provide your mobile number.
  • Step 8: Now, you will get a Generate OTP option. Tap on that. 
  • Step 9: Now, enter the OTP provided to you. You do not need to enter the OTP if it has an autofill feature. It will get filled automatically.
  • Step 10: Next, click on the Show Details option.
  • Step 11: Here, you will get an option named Application Selection. Tap on that.
  • Step 12: Now, you will get another option called Transfer of Ownership. Click that. 
  • Step 13: Provide the buyer’s details in the box provided by the system. Here you have to provide details like the fuel cost calculator of the vehicle (if necessary), address proof of the new owner, insurance certificate of the vehicle, payment address, etc. 
  • Step 14: Now, click on the Payment option.
  • Step 15: After paying, you will get the soft copies of the forms you have filled out and the payment receipt.

Note: If you have filled out Form 28 for NOC, you will get the same receipt too.

  • Step 16: Sign those forms after printing them out.
  • Step 17: Now, submit the original registration certificate, PUC certificate, fuel cost calculator(if required), Pollution Under Control certificate, insurance certificate, car loan calculator (if you had taken a loan to buy the car you are selling), etc., to the RTO office. 
  • Step 18: Once the RTO office verifies the documents, the buyer will get the new registration certificate via email or post within a month.

Transfer Of Ownership On Death Of The Owner Of The Vehicle:

If the vehicle’s present owner dies, selling the car is possible. Sign some RTO forms and provide some extra documents to the RTO office. That is it. We have provided a step-by-step guide below to help you know how to transfer a vehicle’s ownership if the owner dies: 

  • Step 1: Firstly, you must apply for a succession certificate from the SDM or the Regional court. 
  • Step 2: If the previous owner has taken a loan to buy the car and the loan is continuing, fill out Forms 28, 29,30, and 31. Form 28 is necessary to obtain a No Objection Certificate. 
  • Step 3: Now, you need to provide the owner’s death certificate, the Registration certificate of the vehicle, address proof of the applicant, PAN card (if required), valid insurance certificate, Pollution Under Control certificate, and Form 20 to the regional RTO.

Note: You may not have to provide a PAN card individually if you have already provided address proof. 

  • Step 4: Now the applicant needs to pay the amount required for the R.C. transfer. 
  • Step 5: Once you provide all the above documents to the RTO office, they will verify them.
  • Step 6: Once the verification is over, the RTO office will send the new registration form to the new owner within thirty days.

Transfer Of Ownership Of Vehicle Purchased In A Public Auction:

If you sell a vehicle in a public auction, you must provide some extra documents to the RTO office. Here is the whole process of vehicle ownership transfer in case you have sold a car in a public auction:

  • Step 1: Firstly, submit the chassis and engine pencil print, Registration Certificate, a certified copy of the government’s order authorizing the auction, the vehicle’s insurance certificate, a certificate confirming that the vehicle is sold, PAN card, R.C. book of the vehicle, birth certificate of the buyer, passport size photograph of the applicant, address proof, any utility bill (phone bill, electricity bill), driving license (if required), Pollution Under Control Certificate and the buyer undertaking to the RTO office. 
  • Step 2: Now, you need to fill out forms 28 and 30. 
  • Step 3: Now, pay the fees to the RTO office required for vehicle ownership transfer.

  • Step 1: Firstly, the seller prepares a selling agreement by mentioning the selling condition, the status of the ownership transfer, payment mode, vehicle’s insurance details, and Registration details.

  • Step 3: Submit the permanent address proof, utility bill (electricity bill, phone bill, Gas bill, etc.), a copy of the insurance certificate of the vehicle, toll tax calculator  (if required), PUC certificate, NCRB certificate, and a copy of the Registration Certificate to the RTO office along with the forms you have filled out.
  • Step 4: The RTO will send you an acknowledgment form. 
  • Step 5: Now, pay the fees to the RTO office for a new registration certificate.

  • Step 1: First, Submit the NCRB certificate, permanent address proof, passport size photographs, Forms 28 (since the RTO is different, you need to obtain a NOC form from the RTO office),29,30,35, and clearance Certificate (the RTO will provide you with the clearance certificate), Registration Certificate of the vehicle, a copy of Insurance Certificate, PUC Certificate, PAN card, succession letter (if the owner has died), the road tax receipt to the RTO office.
  • Step 2: You may have to fill out a driving license form too. Talk to the RTO office before submitting your documents.  
  • Step 3: Now, pay the road tax. You can pay the road tax online or offline if you keep the receipt safe.

  • Step 5: Tap on Proceed.

  • Step 17: Now, the seller and the buyer have to sign the forms.
  • Step 18: Go to the RTO office and submit the above documents and the forms you have filled out and signed. 
  • Step 19: Once the RTO office verifies the documents, the new owner will get the new registration certificate via email or post after a month.

Note: Since you have paid the fees online, you may have to submit the payment e-challan to the RTO office.
