Best Mileage Cars In India

Fuel prices continue to be one of the most talked about topics in the automotive industry. If you are thinking of buying a new car or maybe even a second-hand one, the cost of what you will be pumping into the tank will matter a lot. If the recent past is anything to go by, then one can be certain that prospective car buyers will have a vested in cars that are frugal when it comes to their fuel consumption figures.

Obviously, not all cars are made the same, with some being far more capable of delivering excellent fuel economy than others. At the same time, over the years, a few automakers have stood out when it comes to producing such types of cars. With so many petrol cars in the market, and even more on their way, this has become de facto fuel for most car buyers in recent times.

In this article, we will take a look at the top 10 most fuel-efficient cars that are currently on sale in India. Being a part of the ‘Best Mileage Cars’ club might very well be one of the most prestigious groups to be a part of. Even though all the cars on this list deserve their spot, they have been listed in ascending order – i.e., from least to the most fuel-efficient car.

Now, let’s take a look at the official prices of the cars in question:

Model Ex-Showroom Price
Datsun redi-Go Rs. 3,98,000 – Rs. 4,96,000

1. Datsun redi-Go

Datsun redi-Go Exterior Styling

The Datsun redi-Go is one of the most affordable new cars in the country right now, and it was launched in 2016. The redi-Go is ideally meant for youngsters living in cities, which is quite apparent when you look at this little hatchback. There’s no doubt that this Datsun has been designed to be attractive, while also promising to be an affordable city runabout for new-car buyers.

The Datsun redi-Go’s wide choice of trim levels means that there’s one variant for almost every level of buyer. Boosting its appeal are exterior colors such as Vivid Blue, Ruby Red, Sandstone Brown, Bonze Grey, Crystal Silver, and Opal White.

Datsun redi-go – Exterior

Datsun redi-Go Front Design

Even though it’s a tall boy, the redi-Go features styling cues that are far from boring or unnoteworthy. In fact, compared to some other cars of a similar exterior design, the redi-Go supports its practical tall-boy design with bold touches all quite well. The sporty-looking front end of the hatchback comes with L-shaped LED DRLs and LED fog lamps that are situated in the sculpted bumper.

Datsun redi-Go Tail Lamps

The large main grille itself looks imposing, while its silver garnishes make it stand out even more. On the outside of the redi-Go, you will also see Datsun badges above the front fenders and steel wheels that sport cool-looking rim covers. These are followed up by the car’s signature LED lights at the back, along with a spoiler and short overhangs.

Datsun redi-Go – Cabin and Practicality

Datsun redi-Go Cabin

The cabin of the Datsun redi-Go is mainly covered in dark grey trim, which is made from cheap plastic. Having said that, Datsun has finished the dashboard, door handles, center console, and the base of the steering wheel in contrasting silver. You will also find chrome around the AC control dials – all of which help in heightening the spunk factor of this interior. There’s also some padding used on the front doors, though its actual quality is questionable.

Datsun redi-Go Storage Space

The seats of the redi-Go get white stitching and stylish patterns, apart from sporting a dual-tone design. As for the seats, they are pretty basic as far as their comfort is concerned. There’s no dearth of headroom, while space for four adults is more than adequate. The redi-Go has a boot capacity of 222 liters, whereas its cabin features stowage for cups, bottles, and even for a smartphone.

Datsun redi-Go Interior

The overall cabin insulation is understandably lacking, with cost-cutting measures apparent almost everywhere – the single windscreen wiper and basic carpeting are prime examples. Still, compared to the old car, this one has a far better interior with improved trimmings as well.

Datsun redi-Go – Features

  • LED DRLs & foglights
  • Keyless entry
  • Power steering
  • Front power windows
  • Internally adjustable door mirrors
  • Shift-up indicator
  • Manual air-conditioning
  • 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with built-in Voice Recognition
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 2-speaker audio system with Bluetooth & iPod connectivity

Datsun redi-Go Instrument Cluster

For a budget-friendly city car, the Datsun redi-Go’s equipment list is just about decent but definitely nothing too noteworthy.

Datsun redi-Go – Safety Equipment

Datsun redi-Go Safety Features

While it’s easy on the pocket, the Datsun redi-Go’s basic safety equipment is far from impressive. The most important amongst these include a single airbag, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, front seatbelt reminder, central locking, overspeed warning, and child safety locks. It’s only when you step up to higher variants do you get features such as dual front airbags and a reversing camera with projection guides.

Datsun redi-Go – Engine and Gearbox

Datsun redi-Go AMT

The Datsun redi-Go is equipped with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 67 horsepower and 91Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the hatchback can also be had a smaller naturally-aspirated engine that makes 54 horsepower and 72Nm. Regardless of which powerplant you go with, the redi-Go’s gearbox choices include a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT.

Datsun redi-Go Rear Design

If you want sporty driving characteristics, then the Datsun redi-Go may not be for you. Its high-speed stability doesn’t offer a sense of security, though its slow-speed manners are good. The higher-powered version can do about 145 kph and touch the ton-mark in under 15 seconds. However, what matters here the most is the redi-Go’s fuel economy. Depending on the engine & gearbox, the redi-Go’s mileage will vary between 20.71 and 22 kpl.

AutoBreeds’s Choice

If you want the most economical Datsun redi-Go, then your best bet is the 1.0L variant with the AMT gearbox.

2. Renault Kwid

Renault Kwid

As one of its finest models in India, French automaker Renault ought to be proud of the Kwid. Competing with cars such as Maruti’s S-Presso, the latest avatar of the Kwid even has its underpinnings shared with the all-new Renault Kiger. At present, the Kwid is the most affordable car that the company sells in India.

The Renault Kwid is offered in several trim levels, all of which are priced pretty reasonably. When it comes to its color choices, the Kwid can be had in Moonlight Silver, Outback Bronze, Fiery Red, Zanskar Blue, Metal Mustard Dual Tone, and Ice Cool White Dual Tone.

Renault Kwid – Exterior

Renault Kwid Exterior Styling

The broad and striking front end of the Kwid presents itself in a bold and confident manner. These are compounded by other cool styling features such as the muscular front bumper with large housings for the headlamps and a black grille that’s flanked by slender LED DRLs. The stylish bonnet and lower-bumper design of the Kwid flows well with its squared wheel arches, and black cladding.

Renault Kwid Rear

When painted in any one of its dual-tone shades, the Renault Kwid’s exterior looks even sportier, courtesy of its protruding roof rails and chic two-tone alloy wheels. The Kwid supports a high ground clearance, steeply-raked rear quarter, a modern-looking LED taillight element, and a chunky rear bumper. For those that like an SUV-like design flair in their compact car, the Renault Kwid will fit their bill well.

Renault Kwid – Cabin and Practicality

Renault Kwid Cabin

The interior of the Renault Kwid is competent in the way that it has been designed – being straightforward yet sporty. There are different shades of grey to be found here, with hints of metallic and glossy trim visible in a few key places. While you may not sit as high in the Kwid as in some of its competition, there’s enough room in the Renault’s cabin to seat four adults quite comfortably.

Renault Kwid Interior

The front seats of the Kwid seem sporty, especially due to its ribbed pattern that also witnesses dual-tone colors and faux stitching for that attention-to-detail feel. The seats are of average quality and will provide most occupants a decent amount of comfort and lateral support, though taller or heftier folks will find the under-thigh support and squab to be a bit lacking.

Renault Kwid AMT

Furthermore, if you are on the shorter side, the rising windowline at the back will make for a slightly couped-up feeling. If you are looking for storage spaces, you will find some in the door pads, apart from the glovebox, cubbies in the center console, and a rear parcel tray. The boot can hold 279 liters of luggage. For the most part, the interior theme is mainly that of minimalism as there aren’t many buttons or dials here.

  • Keyless entry
  • Power windows
  • Electric power steering
  • Electrically adjustable door mirrors
  • Manual air-conditioning
  • Fast USB charger & 12V rear power socket
  • LED digital instrument cluster
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 8-inch touchscreen MediaNav infotainment unit
  • Voice recognition & USB video playback

Renault Kwid Infotainment

The Renault Kwid can be had with enough features to keep most owners satisfied. However, you are not going to be bawled over by the car’s equipment catalog anytime soon.

Renault Kwid – Safety Equipment

Renault Kwid Safety Features

Just like other new cars on sale in India, the Renault Kwid comes with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and reverse parking sensors. Apart from these, the Kwid also gets a day & night rearview mirror, central locking, front seatbelt reminders, speed-sensitive auto door locks, and overspeed warning.

Renault Kwid – Engine and Gearbox

Renault Kwid Instrument Cluster

When equipped with the 0.8-liter three-cylinder motor, the Kwid comes with 53 horsepower and 72Nm of maximum torque, which isn’t a whole lot of power. If you go with the 1.0-liter Kwid, you will then have access to 67 horsepower and 91Nm of torque. Whether you go with the smaller or larger engine, the Kwid’s transmissions include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.

Renault Kwid Design

The Renault Kwid has a top speed of around 155 kph, while the acceleration from naught to 100 kph takes a shade over 14 seconds. More importantly, the Kwid has a rated mileage of between 22 and 22.25 kpl. This makes it the most frugal Renault car in India and the second-most economical one, overall.

AutoBreeds’s Choice

The most fuel-efficient version of the Renault Kwid is the one that’s powered by the 0.8-liter engine, with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

3. Maruti Suzuki Swift

Maruti Suzuki Swift

In the international market, the Suzuki Swift nameplate came about sometime in the early-2000s. As for the Maruti Suzuki Swift, it arrived on Indian shores in 2005 under much fanfare. To say that this hatchback gained fame and success in India would be an understatement. With its all-new third-generation model being launched in 2018, the Swift has only become a better car.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift is now available in even more variants than before, giving buyers more options to choose from. In terms of its exterior shades, the Swift can be bought in colors like Pearl Metallic Lucent Orange, Metallic Silky Silver, Metallic Magma Grey, Solid Fire Red, Pearl Metallic Midnight Blue, Pearl Arctic White, Solid Fire Red with Pearl Midnight Black Roof, Pearl Arctic White with Pearl Midnight Black Roof, and Pearl Metallic Midnight Blue with Pearl Arctic White Roof.

Maruti Suzuki Swift – Exterior

Maruti Suzuki Swift engine

With the Swift being one of the most commonly-sighted cars on our roads, it would have been a pity if it didn’t look good. Thankfully, it does. The latest Swift is unarguably one of the best-looking cars within its price bracket, bar none. The front fascia of the Swift wears a sculpted bonnet, sweptback headlamps, a wide hexagonal main grille brandishing a chrome bar, and a chiseled bumper.

Maruti Suzuki Swift styling

The rear of the Swift features a sharp ledge-like design on the tailgate, a raked rear windshield, and cleanly-sculpted tail lamps. Even though it’s still very much a Swift in its overall silhouette, the side profile of this new model sports stylish dual-tone colors with a sloping roof/floating roof, pronounced rear haunches, and door handles that are placed in the C-pillars. The new Maruti Suzuki Swift is still a great-looking car, something that will likely remain true for a long time.

Maruti Suzuki Swift – Cabin and Practicality

Maruti Suzuki Swift rear space

The mostly-dark interior of the Maruti Suzuki Swift looks sporty, owing to elements such as a flat-bottom steering wheel, well-bolstered but wide front seats, a large instrument binnacle with red accents, and a driver-focused center console. While the front seats are comfortable and supportive, the rear bench continues to feel tight and even dingy at times. That said, the new Swift’s longer wheelbase and wider cabin have relieved more space for rear occupants.

Maruti Suzuki Swift interior

While it might feel sporty at first, the cabin of the Swift isn’t that premium or extremely well-trimmed. There’s no shortage of scratchy materials here, but the overall fit & finish has become better in certain areas. Speaking of which, cabin storage can be seen by way of a good-sized glovebox, bottle holders in the doors, and a small cubby for cups or phones. The Swift does have a decent boot, with a claimed 268 liters.

Maruti Suzuki Swift – Features

  • Smart keyless entry with push-button ignition
  • Automatic LED projector headlights with LED DRLs
  • Electrically adjustable & auto retractable ORVMs
  • Multifunction steering wheel with rake adjustment
  • Cruise control
  • Automatic climate control
  • 6-speaker audio system
  • ‘Feather Touch’ touchscreen infotainment system with Smartplay Studio app
  • Voice Command
  • Android Auto & Apple CarPlay

The Maruti Suzuki Swift is now boasting far more modern features than it ever had in the past, which makes it a far more appealing buy.

Maruti Suzuki Swift – Safety Equipment

The Maruti Suzuki Swift also comes with a few more extra safety equipment now, primarily amongst which are its Heartect platform, ABS and EBD with Brake Assist, and Electronic Stability Program with Hill Hold Assist. Apart from these, the Swift further scores features such as dual front airbags, High Speed Alert System, front seatbelts with pre-tensioners, ISOFIX rear anchor points, and rear parking sensors with a reversing camera.

Maruti Suzuki Swift – Engine and Gearbox

Maruti Suzuki Swift exterior

In its latest avatar, the Maruti Suzuki Swift comes powered by a 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine. The Dual Jet, Dual VVT unit is capable of pushing out nearly 89 horsepower and 113Nm of peak torque. Customers can have the Swift paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox, which is more popularly known as Automatic Gear Shift by Maruti Suzuki.

Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT gearbox

The Swift CNG is powered by the same four-cylinder K-Series motor as in the petrol-only model. However, it now makes a more modest 76.4 horsepower and 98.5Nm of torque – better than some other CNG cars. The Swift CNG also comes with the same gearboxes that the petrol-only Swift comes equipped with. While the Swift is quite quick on its feet, its mileage of between 22.38 kpl and 22.56 kpl is respectable.

AutoBreeds’s Choice

The Swift AMT not only is an easy-to-drive car in the city, but with an official fuel economy of 22.56 kpl, it’s also the most fuel-efficient version of this Maruti Suzuki.

4. Maruti Suzuki Dzire

Maruti Suzuki Dzire India

During the mid-to-late 2000s, there was a sizeable demand for a practical and spacious family sedan that was priced sensibly. In response to this, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire was launched in 2008. It quickly went on to become one of the brand’s fastest-selling cars in the country, which remains a trend to this day. Presently in its third & latest iteration, the Dzire is sat upon the Heartect platform, which it shares with the Swift hatchback.

Just like its hatchback sibling, the Dzire is available in several variants that include multiple engine & gearbox options. On top of this, a customer can ask Maruti Suzuki to have their particular car painted in colors that include Prime Oxford Blue, Pearl Arctic White, Metallic Magma Gray, Pearl Phoenix Red, Metallic Premium Silver, And Prime Sherwood Brown.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire – Exterior

Maruti Suzuki Dzire Front Styling

Where the first-ever model was big enough and carried the name ‘Swift Dzire’, from the second generation onwards, the sedan grew smaller and dropped the ‘Swift’ nomenclature. When it comes to the third-generation model, the subcompact sedan looks more appealing than the one it replaces. It not only depicts a more sculpted body language overall, but each body panel also looks that much easier on the eyes.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire Side

Up front, the biggest difference between the Dzire over the Swift comes from its restyled grille and bumper. Of course, the most obvious distinction between the two becomes all the more apparent as views the Dzire from the side – it’s a sedan – how and how?! On a positive note, Maruti Suzuki has done a good job of making the styling look more cohesive and proportionate, especially when compared to its former avatars.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire Rear

The rear of the Dzire gets a distinctive boot that features a thick chrome bar on the bootlid, while the tail lamp design is different with different LED clusters than that of the Swift as well. The bumper also is of a new design, sporting static reflectors at the bottom. While there aren’t too many sharp angles or aggressive creases, the Dzire does get many curvy styling elements.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire – Cabin and Practicality

Maruti Suzuki Dzire Interior

Compared to the sporty-looking interior of the Swift hatchback, the cabin of the Dzire comes across as airier and more upscale. This has been done with generous use of light beige trim with champagne accents, along with pseudo wood inserts on the steering wheel, dashboard & doors, plus piano black and silver trim on the center console and driver’s display.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire AC Vents

Speaking of which, the instrument binnacle of the Dzire shares its general design with the Swift’s, but it hosts a more subdued color pallet. To further its sensible characteristic, the rear of the Maruti Dzire gets a center armrest with cupholders, a floor-mounted unit that integrates AC vents, a charging socket, and a small cubby for a phone. However, just like the hatchback, this sedan also has its center console angled towards the driver.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire Cabin

There’s a good view to be had from the driver’s seat of the Dzire, with its rear pillars not being as thick as that found on the Swift. On a side note, the height of the boot of the Dzire limits some view while looking back using the IRVM. You will also find that the design and layout of the HVAC panel here are different from that of the Swift while being very simple to use, too. This being a sedan, the Maruti Dzire gets a handy 378-liter boot.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire – Features

  • Smart keyless entry with push-button start
  • Automatic LED projector headlights with LED DRLs
  • Electrically adjustable & auto retractable door mirrors
  • Electrically operated boot release
  • Flat-bottom leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Cruise control
  • Automatic climate control with pollen filter
  • 6-speaker audio system
  • Smartplay Studio infotainment system with Voice Command & Navigation
  • Apple CarPlay & Android Auto

Maruti Suzuki Dzire Features

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire is quite well kitted out, even when it comes to its mid-range VXI variant. This surely is a pretty well-sorted family subcompact sedan for the price.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire – Safety Equipment

Maruti Suzuki Dzire Safety Features

Over the years, Maruti Suzuki has realized that it needs to offer more safety equipment in its cars. When it comes to the Dzire, the sedan gets all the usuals – dual airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, and ESP with Hill Hold Assist. The Dzire also comes with other safety nannies like a rear defogger, reverse parking sensors with a rearview camera, front seatbelts with pre-tensioners, Day and Night rearview mirror, and ISOFIX anchorages.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire – Engine and Gearbox

Maruti Suzuki Dzire Design

Under the bonnet, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire houses the same powerplant as the Swift hatchback. This means the same K12N four-cylinder petrol engine that puts out about 89 horsepower and 113Nm of torque. In its CNG form, the same motor develops an identical 76.4 horsepower and 98.5Nm of maximum torque. The drivetrain doesn’t see much change either, save for some tweaks made to the gear ratios.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire AMT

The Dzire comes with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AGS (AMT) gearboxes, the latter being tuned for high mileage rather than performance. This shows in the Dzire AMT’s fuel economy rating of 22.61 kpl, which is quite an achievement. As for the manual variant, its mileage is officiated at 22.41 kpl. The Dzire’s top speed is similar to that of the Swift, while it takes about the same time to hit 100 kph.

AutoBreeds’s Choice

If you are indeed getting this subcompact sedan purely for its mileage, then go ahead with the AMT version without a shadow of a doubt. It really is quite the frugal car.

5. Maruti Suzuki Baleno

Maruti Suzuki Baleno design

Unlike its predecessor, the new-generation Baleno came up on the Indian automotive scene back in late 2015. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno sits at least a notch higher than the Swift and Ignis, though both are based on the same Heartect platform. Over the years, the premium hatchback went through a few facelifts, with the most recent one debuting in India in February 2022. As you’d have expected, the Baleno shares many similarities with the Toyota Glanza.

The Baleno may not be available with as many variants as its lesser Maruti siblings, but this Nexa stablemate is offered in enough trim levels for most buyers to pick the right one. If you are a prospective buyer of the Baleno, you’d like to know that this hatchback is available in exterior colors such as Nexa Blue, Opulent Red, Splendid Silver, Grandeur Grey, Luxe Beige, and Arctic White.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno – Exterior

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Front Styling

The latest version of this chic hatchback looks so much more aggressive and sportier compared to its precursor. It’s at the front end where you can notice the complex styling cues which now looks more Japanese than European. With the intricately-styled projector headlamps with LED running lights and ‘NEXWave’ grille with an underscored chrome strip taking center stage, the chiseled bumper provides for more sportiness.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Side Profile

The sculpted yet sophisticated bodywork of the Baleno gelling well with its 16-inch two-tone alloy wheels, a heavily-chiseled front half, along with its chrome-lined door handles, and a sloped roofline does its design enough justice. Once you are at the back of the Baleno, you will be greeted by a sporty spoiler, steeply-sloped windscreen leading to a protruding chrome bar, sculped bumper, and C-shaped tail lamps.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Rear Styling

Overall, the exterior design of the new Baleno is not too dissimilar to the old one – it’s the details that get the nip & tuck. The boomerang-shaped chrome-finished windowline is a nice touch, while the strong coupe-like effect for the roof goes really well with the whole car’s styling. Years later, the Maruti Baleno is undefeatable one of the best-styled cars in its segment – the caveat being its aggressive styling details might be much for some.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno – Cabin and Practicality

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Interior design

On the inside, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno looks suitably upmarket and spacious. There are multiple layers, colors and textures used on the dashboard and door pads. While the blue and black theme may not be for everyone, it helps lift the cabin’s overall ambiance. The buttons for operating the air-conditioning system are well laid out and the two rocker switches feel premium enough to use.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno SmartPlay Pro+ Infotainment

The central touchscreen is easy to use as well, while its display feels responsive and sharp. The view from the driver’s seat is good, with the clocks looking neat and well-defined, and the central MID comes with many useful indications and menus for you to flick through. Despite the sloping roof design, those seated in the back will not be complaining about headroom that often.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Boot Space

As for the seats, their comfort factor is alright and there’s a reasonable level of support provided by the side bolsters up front. Build quality is fine, but it doesn’t feel all that high-end or posh. Thankfully, there are enough storage spaces for you to keep your knick-knacks – front cupholders, a cubby under the sliding armrest, and usable door pockets. You also get rear AC vents and fast-charging USB sockets. As for the Baleno’s boot, it can hold 318 liters worth of luggage.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno – Features

  • Smart entry with push-button engine start
  • LED projector headlights, LED DRLs & LED foglights
  • Electrically adjustable & auto retractable door mirrors
  • Electrically operated boot release
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel with reach & rake adjustment
  • Cruise control
  • Automatic climate control
  • Surround Sense audio system by Arkamys
  • 9-inch Smartplay Studio infotainment system with Voice Assistant
  • Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Alexa and smartwatch connectivity

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Instrument Cluster

The Baleno has multiple convenience features to suit most people’s needs. However, its equipment catalog has grown compared to its predecessor.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno – Safety Equipment

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Rearview Camera

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is built on the Heartect platform, making it one of the safer cars the brand makes. Contributing to its safety aspects are other features such as ESP with Hill Hold Assist, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, auto-dimming IRVMs, heads-up display, Speed Alert System, seatbelt reminder, ISOFIX anchor points, rear parking sensors with a 360-degree camera, along with Front, Side and Curtain airbags.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno – Engine and Gearbox

Maruti Suzuki Baleno AMT gearbox

Powering the Baleno is the same powerplant that provides a motive force for the new Swift. This means it’s Maruti Suzuki’s K12N Dual Jet four-cylinder that sends a smidge over 88 horsepower and 113Nm of torque to the front wheels via either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT gearbox. Unlike the Swift, the Baleno is not as exciting to drive and feels like a car that’s more suited for relaxed driving.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Taillight

That said, if you do end up pushing it, the Baleno will go on to touch a top whack of 178 kph and pass 100 kph in 12.5 seconds. One thing that really matters here, though, is the Baleno’s mileage. While it’s nowhere near as nice as the former CVT, the AMT gearbox in this Baleno allows for a maximum mileage of 22.94 kpl! As for the manual version, it’s rated at 22.35 kpl.

Autobreeds’s Choice

According to us, the Zeta AMT combines a healthy features list with a fuel-efficient powertrain – a match made in heaven.

6. Maruti Suzuki Alto K10

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Exterior

While it may share a part of its name with the lesser 800 model, the Alto K10 is slotted slightly above it. If you are looking for an affordable hatchback that’s tough yet easy to own and quite fun to drive, then Maruti Suzuki has a car for you. Furthermore, this new model is also supposedly safer than all the previous ones.

Customers of the Alto K10 can get it in several formats, with the entry-level car feeling extremely basic. At the same time, one can choose from a variety of colors – Metallic Granite Grey, Metallic Sizzling Red, Premium Earth Gold, Metallic Silky Silver, Metallic Speedy Blue, and Solid White.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 – Exterior

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Front Grille

The moment you take a good long look at the new Alto K10, you will realize that it’s larger than the old car. That indeed is the case as well, as this model boasts a slightly longer wheelbase than its precursor. The Alto K10 has also taken on a tall-boy-like silhouette, which some may not be too fond of, but it works well in other ways.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Side Profile

When it comes to the styling of the Alto K10, some of the most striking design features come in way of the honeycomb main grille that pairs well with similarly-themed wheel covers, along with a sharply-sculpted front bumper, a shiny Suzuki badge above the grille, and a ‘K10’ badge on the tailgate.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Rear

While each of these design aspects look good on their own, other design details are not as good. Examples of this can be found in the underwhelming-looking squared tail lamps, oversized wheel arches, rather bland body lines, and small 13-inch wheels. Needless to say, the Alto K10’s design will not be sending shockwaves through the fashion community.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 – Cabin and Practicality

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Cabin

The Alto K10’s interior has been brightened up to make it more delectable than the standard Alto 800. One of the ways Maruti Suzuki has managed to pull this off is by using a lighter dual-tone scheme for the seats, aluminum accents on the door handles, and silver trim on the steering wheel, gauge cluster, and on the bezels of the infotainment screen.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Interior Design

Getting in and out of this Alto will also be easier than the 800, as the K10 is taller. This also means that the occupants will not have to struggle with headroom, as there’s plenty of that here as well. When it comes to the seats themselves, the front ones can accommodate almost every type of body frame. However, the rear bench not only lacks support for your neck but also for your thighs on long trips.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Interior Room

The large windows of the Alto K10 let in plenty of natural light into the cabin, though that also exposes the cheap plastics used in most places. Meanwhile, you can store your items in the cubbies located in the door pads, in front of the shifter, in a cozy glovebox, or on the parcel tray at the back. If you want to store even more stuff, the Alto K10 gets a 214-liter boot.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 – Features

  • Remote keyless entry
  • Power steering
  • Front power windows
  • Manual air-conditioning
  • Internally adjustable door mirrors
  • Steering-mounted audio & voice controls
  • Digital speedometer and MID
  • 4-speaker sound system with USB and AUX connectivity
  • 7-inch touchscreen infotainment powered by Maruti Suzuki’s SmartPlay Studio system
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Infotainment

The Alto K10 may not be the most feature-packed car on this side of 10 lakhs, but its catalog has grown since its first introduction. Any upgrade is a good upgrade, at least in this case.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 – Safety Equipment

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Safety

The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 arrives with some life-saving features such as a collapsible steering column, front seatbelts with pre-tensioners, speed-sensitive auto door lock & impact-sensing door unlock, High Speed Alert, and central locking. Apart from these, the Alto K10 also comes with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, and rear door child lock.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 – Engine and Gearbox

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 AMT

The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 is available with only one engine in India. It’s a 1.0-liter three-cylinder that runs on petrol and is equipped with Dual Jet and Dual VVT technology. The end result of all this is a total output of 65 horsepower and 89Nm of peak torque heading to the front wheels. You can choose between a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox, both known for their excellent fuel economy.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Engine

In the case of the Alto K10 AMT, it has been rated by ARAI at a truly impressive 24.90 kpl. That doesn’t mean that the manual variant is much worse – it has an ARAI fuel consumption figure of 24.39 kpl. The Alto K10 is not fast by any means, but it can hit a top speed of around 145 kph. As for its acceleration from 0 to 100 kph, the hatchback will take upwards of 13 seconds to achieve that.

AutoBreeds’s Choice

If you really want the most efficient version of the Alto K10, then you ought to go the AMT way. That said, the manual is far more fun to drive.

7. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Side Profile

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is one of the most familiar sights on our roads, whether you like it or not. As one of the best-selling cars in the country, this tall boy is a stalwart within its segment. Now that it’s in its all-new iteration, the Wagon R has become a better car overall while continuing to be a favorite amongst many.

The Wagon R is offered in many variants, which means that there’s one for almost everyone that wants a practical everyday hatchback. Buyers get to pick from a multitude of exterior colors, which includes options like Solid White, Prime Gallant Red, Poolside Blue, Magma Grey, Silky Silver, Nutmeg Brown, Metallic Magma Grey Plus Black, and Prime Gallant Red Plus Black.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R – Exterior

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R India

The Wagon R’s exterior has been comprehensively revamped for its latest avatar, making it seem like a more mature yet stylized package. Going towards making the front end seem so new is its more aggressive fascia that now features a thick and unique grille with a shiny center bar. The same also sports a chrome Suzuki insignia. The large and blocky headlamps plus a flat’ish bumper further add to this car’s stand-up demeanor.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Exterior Styling

Around the sides, the Wagon R’s tall-boy stature is very much still here for everybody to see. The changes come in the form of a new design for the wing mirrors, all-black pillars & roof, a set of new 14-inch alloy wheels, haunched rear corners, and thick C-pillars with a pseudo floating design. Even with all this artwork, the boxy profile of the Wagon R means it’s far from being a design masterpiece.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Headlights

The rear of the Wagon R is mostly devoid of any design flair, though the vertically-stacked tail lamps look like they have been inspired by Volvo. The only other thing of note here is the chrome bar that’s placed above the number plate holder. Overall, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R looks better than its predecessor in some ways, and less in other ways.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R – Cabin and Practicality

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Interior

Being a proper tall boy, the Wagon R is one of the easiest cars to get in and out of. The seats make for a good place to be when you want to go for drives within the city, maybe even for some longer ones on occasions. They are good at fitting small or large frames, and you could try squeezing three people in the back.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Cabin

Just like the old car, this new one also boasts big windows so as to make the cabin feel nice and airy. This sense is complemented further by the use of dual-tone shades for the interior, with the lighter theme being found on the dashboard and seats. Not only is the space on the inside good, but the new Wagon R also gets a capacious 341-liter boot, which is really astonishing for a car this size.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Boot Space

Aiding the Wagon R’s in-cabin practicality are smaller cubbies located in the doors and center console, though neither is as impressive. For the most part, the interior feels well-built and easy to live with, but the latter doesn’t apply to the digital MID/tachometer which can be overwhelming at times.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R – Features

  • Remote keyless entry
  • Idle Start Stop (ISS) system
  • Tilt-adjustable steering wheel
  • Split-folding rear seats
  • Day & Night rearview mirror
  • Electrically adjustable & retractable ORVMs with integrated turn indicators
  • Steering-mounted audio controls
  • Four-speaker sound system
  • 7-inch infotainment touchscreen with Smartplay Studio system
  • Smartphone Navigation with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Smartplay

The new Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has been given several features that make it a better package. However, most of its equipment is what you would expect for the price anyway.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R – Safety Equipment

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Safety Features

Among the safety toys that the Wagon R comes with, the standard ones include central locking, High Speed Alert with speed-sensitive door locks, seatbelt reminders, rear defogger, and front seatbelts that get pre-tensioners as well. Adding to its portfolio are other necessities such as reverse parking sensors, Hill Hold Assist, ABS with EBD, and dual front airbags.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R – Engine and Gearbox

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Rear

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is available with K10C and K12N engines – the former being a three-cylinder while the latter a four-cylinder. Both these engines come equipped with Maruti’s Dual Jet and Dual VVT tech, while the fuel of choice can be petrol or CNG. However, only the smaller mill gets a CNG version as well. In terms of its output, the three-pot petrol makes 66 horsepower and 89Nm of torque.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R AMT

When fueled with CNG, the same engine produces just 56 horsepower but a pretty decent 82.1Nm of torque. The larger four-cylinder motor in the Wagon R is capable of developing 88 horsepower and 113Nm of maximum torque. Understandably, this is the model to go for if performance is what you seek. Of course, it’s the 1.0-liter engine with the AMT gearbox that shines with a maximum mileage of 25.19 kpl.

AutoBreeds’s Choice

If you want a Wagon R that has decent performance yet doesn’t lack frugality, then you should go with the 1.0-liter variant with the AMT gearbox. However, if you want the best mileage and don’t care about performance, then the 1.0-liter model with the AMT will be the way to go.

8. Maruti Suzuki S-Presso

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso Styling

India is the land of sub-4-meter cars. In fact, it’s a segment that accounts for some of the top-selling models in the whole country. One of the cars that have been doing quite well in this space is the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso. Often advertised as a Micro SUV, this tall vehicle does its best to imitate design aspects that are more commonly found on ladder-body SUVs. This is its strongest forte and USP.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso – Variants and Colors

The S-Presso comes with a fair choice of trim levels, though it will be wise to skip the bargain-basement variant. In the meantime, you could browse the brochure for exterior colors that include Solid Fire Red, Solid Sizzle Orange, Pearl Starry Blue, Metallic Silky Silver, Metallic Granite Grey, or Solid White.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso – Exterior

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso Front Grille

To make it seem like a small SUV from the outside, Maruti Suzuki has increased the overall height of the S-Presso by a fair margin. The automaker has managed to do this by giving the car a ground clearance of 180mm while also having the roof height reaching nearly 1.6 meters off the ground. While its faux SUV shape might fascinate those that like tall-riding hatchbacks, it may offend those that prefer a more digestible body shape.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso Side

The S-Presso’s basic exterior styling is not as cohesive as one might imagine, with awkward proportions that don’t work in its favor too well. The tall stance of this car is further elevated by its relatively-short overhangs, squared wheel arches, flared fenders, and a flat roofline. As for the front end of the S-Presso, it looks quite bold thanks to the large headlamps and a chrome-garnished front grille. Also, the front bumper looks remarkably similar to the one seen on some Mahindra SUVs.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso Rear

The front also scores LED DRLs, along with a faux skid plate under the front bumper. When it comes to the sides of the S-Presso, your eyes will likely be drawn towards the difference in elevation between the front & rear door handles, then towards the thin veneer of black cladding placed below the doors. The only things to comment on when it comes to the rear of the S-Presso are its taillights that get LED running elements, static reflectors, and an all-black bumper.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso – Cabin and Practicality

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso Cabin

Since you sit pretty high up in the S-Presso, your view out of the cabin is pretty good. Similarly, ingress and egress will not be an issue either. The doors of the S-Presso open pretty wide, but they do not have that tough feel to them. Once in the cabin, you will soon realize the thick C-pillars restrict quite a bit of your view outside. The seats of the S-Presso are average in terms of their comfort, but taller folks will need breaks between long drives.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso Interior Design

On the other hand, most people will find the front seats to be not short on lateral or under-thigh support. The rear bench does lack the right amount of squab, but those seated here will have access to loads of headroom. One of the other things your eyes will be drawn to is the Mini-inspired center console design, though it doesn’t feel anywhere near as well-polished or premium in its general look and feel.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso Boot Space

Then there’s the instrument cluster and infotainment system that some might like, but many others will definitely not. On a similar note, the S-Presso’s 240-liter boot is not the most practical, being smaller than even some hatchbacks. As expected, the general build quality is not amongst this car’s strong suits, with as flimsy materials being quite common.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso – Features

  • Remote keyless entry
  • Front power windows
  • Electrically adjustable door mirrors
  • Idle Start Stop (ISS) system
  • 2-speaker audio system with Bluetooth, AUX & USB connectivity
  • 7-inch SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system
  • Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
  • Manual air-conditioning
  • Multifunction steering wheel
  • Digital gauge cluster and MID

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso Dashboard Design

The features list of the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is not exhaustive by any measure, but it will keep several of its owners decently satisfied.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso – Safety Equipment

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso Safety Features

The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso comes packing basic safety items such as dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors. You also get a few other useful gadgets like Speed Alert System, central locking doors, speed-sensitive auto door locks, and a seatbelt reminder. Interestingly, while the S-Presso comes with ESP and Hill Hold Assist, its GNCAP rating is still poor.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso – Engine and Gearbox

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso AMT Gearbox

Powering the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is a K-Series three-cylinder petrol engine. This 1.0-liter unit is quite peppy but only manages to produce a little under 66 horsepower and 89Nm of maximum torque. The S-Presso is offered with two transmissions – a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT/AGS. With a top speed of around 145 kph and taking north of 13 seconds to hit 100 kph, this is not the car to win drag races in.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso Performance

In the meantime, the S-Presso impresses with its excellent fuel economy figures. When fitted with the manual gearbox, the S-Presso is rated at 24.12 kpl. However, the one with the AMT gearbox scores extremely well by being able to return a remarkable 25.30 kpl!

AutoBreeds’s Choice

Similar to several other Maruti cars, the S-Presso’s most fuel-efficient avatar is the one that sports the 5-speed AMT gearbox. So, if you yearn to visit the pumps as less as possible, this version it is.

9. Honda City e:HEV

Honda City eHEV Exterior Styling

The Honda City is undeniably one of the best and most successful sedans of all time. In India, the City has an almost god-like following amongst many. Over the two decades or so that this mid-size sedan has been on sale in the country, the seventh-generation model really has been gaining a lot of attention from prospective buyers since its launch. That’s when Honda dropped the curtains on the e:HEV – the City’s hybrid form.

Honda City e:HEV – Variants and Colors

Honda City eHEV Rear Styling

To keep things simple for its customers, the Honda City e:HEV is only available in a fully-loaded ZX variant in India. When it comes to the choice of colors, you get to pick from options such as Radiant Red Metallic, Meteoroid Grey Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, and Golden Brown Metallic.

Honda City e:HEV – Exterior

Honda City eHEV Design

Simply looking at the City e:HEV won’t be enough for most to tell this apart from its regular petrol sibling. For that, you will have to get closer to spotting the details that make the hybrid version a little different. Be warned though, the differences are minimal at best. This being a hybrid, the Honda logos on the nose and the tail have blue hues around them, while there’s the obligatory ‘e:HEV’ badging on the bootlid.

Honda City eHEV Side Profile

In terms of its design, the City Hybrid looks fairly identical to the standard model, which is not a bad thing at all. The seventh-generation City is a sophisticated and clean design, though some elements do look more sporty than others. Examples of this can be seen in the rear bumper which features a diffuser that’s finished in faux carbon fiber, a trunk-lip spoiler, aggressively-styled front foglamp housing, and a black honeycomb grille.

Honda City eHEV Rear

The sophistication part comes from the integration of the full-LED headlamps with a multi-array setup, a large & thick chrome bar on the grille, chrome door handles, a clutter-free side profile, and wraparound tail lamps with unique 3D LED elements. The trunk and the smooth-flowing roof also lead to a well-crafted exterior. Unfortunately, the gap between the 16-inch alloy rims and the deep wheel wells of the City e:HEV makes for an underwhelming & under-tired look.

Honda City e:HEV – Cabin and Practicality

Honda City eHEV Cabin

Just like its petrol-only model, the City Hybrid’s interior looks and feels upmarket and even posh. It’s plush, well-built, spacious, features good-quality materials in several places, and boasts a fairly quiet cabin for the most part. When it comes to the seats, the Honda City has always scored well – both in terms of comfort and support. That remains true with the City Hybrid as well.

Honda City eHEV Cabin Storage

The front chairs are perhaps even superior to cars that cost more than this one, but their large proportions can make it challenging for rear passengers to see what’s exactly in front of them. The large headrests are good as well, while the rear seats offer good back support and their recline is decent too. There’s plenty of rear headroom for people under six feet tall, with a center armrest and large windows proving additional comfort.

Honda City eHEV Interior Design

The dual-tone interior of the City e:HEV makes for a light and airy cabin feel. Then there are also other upscale touches such as wood inserts on the dash, and chrome door handles, apart from piano black & silver accents on various surfaces. The HVAC dials are also well-finished and feel nice to operate. On a side note, the rear bench is mainly meant for two adults for maximum comfort. The Honda City Hybrid has a trunk space of 410 liters, which is fairly average.

Honda City e:HEV – Features

  • Keyless entry with push-button & Remote Engine Start
  • Electric sunroof
  • Automatic climate control with rear vents
  • Rear sunshades
  • Paddle shifters
  • Frameless & auto-dimming IRVM
  • Electric Parking Brake with Auto Hold
  • 7-inch part-digital driver’s display
  • LED ambient lighting
  • 8-inch touch-infotainment system with smartphone, smartwatch & Alexa connectivity

Honda City eHEV Instrument Cluster

Being the most expensive car on this list, you will expect the Honda City e:HEV to be loaded to the gills with modern features, and you would be right.

Honda City e:HEV – Safety Equipment

Honda City eHEV Safety Features

There are way too many safety features to be found on the Honda City Hybrid. The most noteworthy ones come in the form of the Honda Sensing suite, which encompasses Auto High-Beam, Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System with Road Departure Mitigation System, and Lane Keep Assist System with LaneWatch Camera. It also gets 6 airbags, reversing sensors with Multi-Angle Rear Camera, Agile Handling Assist, Vehicle Stability Assist, and Electronic Stability & Traction Control System.

Honda City e:HEV – Engine and Gearbox

Honda City eHEV Powertrain

The Honda City e:HEV comes with a 1.5-liter petrol engine that runs on the efficient Atkinson cycle. The four-cylinder ICE is paired with two permanent-magnet AC Synchronous electric motors that combine to deliver a total output of 124 horsepower and 253Nm of torque. Even though it does get two electric motors, only one is designed for propelling the car, while the other plays the role of a generator.

Honda City eHEV Front

According to Honda, the City e:HEV can hit 100 kph in around 10 seconds, which is reasonably quick but not ballistically so. The hybrid’s top speed is a claimed 176 kph. Equipped with an electronically-tweaked and controlled CVT gearbox, a small but self-charging lithium-ion battery pack, and an auto engine stop-start system, the Honda City e:HEV’s mileage is an astounding 26.5 kpl!

AutoBreeds’s Choice

If you can afford its price tag and want the most fuel-efficient City, then the e:HEV is your only real choice.

10. Maruti Suzuki Celerio

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Styling

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio has just been revealed in its all-new form, but it’s already lapping up credits from customers and critics alike. Built on the same underpinning as the new Alto K10 and Wagon R, the Celerio is quickly becoming famous for being the most fuel-efficient car in India. The Celerio has not only been given a thorough makeover on the outside and inside, but it’s now the best version of itself.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio is being offered in many trim levels, with each being aimed at a different set of buyers. As for its exterior color options, the Celerio is available in shades like Speedy Blue, Silky Silver, Solid Fire Red, Glistening Grey, Caffeine Brown, and Arctic White.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio – Exterior

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Design

The exterior design of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio is far more appealing and trendier than the old car. It now seems like a car that likes to have fun apart from being just a practical urban runabout. If you really want your Celerio to stand out, try and get it in one of the more exciting colors – Speedy Blue would be a good bet, even more so with the optional black alloy rims.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Rear

Some of the most look-worthy exterior details on the Celerio include its large headlamps, a simple black grille with a Suzuki logo in the middle, and chrome strips that run into the headlamps. The sculpted front bumper is fairly large and gets highly-animated black plastic lower cladding with integrated fog lamps. The Celerio gets simple door handles, animated wheel arches, and droplet-shaped tail lamps.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio – Cabin and Practicality

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Interior Design

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio’s interior has become a more modern and livable space as compared to before. Even the dashboard has received its share of design updates, though the sheer blend of layers and curves don’t gel that well and look like overkill. The all-black interior might be of interest to some, whilst others will find it too dark and gloomy. Of course, there’s hard plastic almost everywhere.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Cabin

The Celerio’s seats offer a reasonable level of comfort, though the rear units are only about average. That said, the windows are big enough and provide a good view out. Other aspects such as headroom and legroom are good too, though the shoulder room is only fit for two adults at the back. There are storage cubbies in the doors and center console, but not much else. The Celerio’s boot is a good 313 liters in total volume.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio – Features

  • Keyless entry with ‘request switch’ & push-button start
  • Tilt-adjustable multifunction steering wheel
  • Split-folding rear seats
  • 4-speaker sound system with AUX, USB & Bluetooth
  • Engine Idle Start Stop (ISS) system
  • Manual AC

  • Driver seat-height adjustment
  • 7-inch SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system
  • Apple CarPlay & Android Auto

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Engine Start Stop

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio gets more features and tech than its predecessor, though that comes at a higher asking price.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio – Safety Equipment

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Safety Features

Just like many other Maruti Suzuki cars, the Celerio now comes equipped with vital features such as dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and reverse parking sensors as standard. Some of its other important safety equipment include Speed Alert System, Hill Hold Assist, front seatbelt reminder, impact-sensing auto door unlock, and a rear window wiper with wash & defogging functions.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio – Engine and Gearbox

Maruti Suzuki Celerio Instrument Cluster

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio is powered by a K10C three-cylinder engine, which can be fueled either by petrol or CNG. In its former form, this naturally-aspirated unit turns up with 66 horsepower and 89Nm of peak torque. Meanwhile, the Celerio CNG has 56 horsepower and just under 82Nm of shove on offer. Both engine options of the Celerio get a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, though only the petrol version gets the 5-speed AMT.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio AMT

What really matters here is the maximum mileage one can extract from the Maruti Celerio, and it’s extremely impressive. When powered by its petrol-only powerplant and mated to the 5-speed AMT, this hatchback gets an officially-claimed ARAI mileage of 26.68 kpl. That makes the Maruti Suzuki Celerio AMT the car with the best mileage in India, and that’s quite the achievement.

Our Verdict

If you really care about squeezing out the maximum range from each drop of petrol you put in your car, then these cars should really be on your shortlist. If you can spend upwards of 20 lakhs and want a mid-size sedan with tons of features, then you should go for the City e:HEV.

On the other hand, if your budget is a little more limited but not your thirst for maximum fuel economy, then the Celerio AMT will be a good buy. In between these two, all the cars from the Maruti stable that are listed here promise respectable mileage as well. As for the redi-Go, its mileage is good, but certainly not the best.
