Suzuki Hayabusa

Suzuki Hayabusa has been always known in India as Dhoom bike. It was popularised as such because of a blockbuster film featuring Suzuki Hayabusa as the main bike of the cool villain. For most people, the bike remained as the dream machine and there are also many who flaunt it.

The legendary motorcycle is now backing in India in the BS6 avatar with a slew of changes. It is priced at Rs 16.41 lakh ex-showroom, New Delhi and at present, the bike is already sold out. Suzuki allotted 101 units of bike for India in the first batch and all those bikes sold within three days of the price reveal.

Suzuki Hayabusa

Despite covid-19 pandemic and lockdown restrictions, Hayabusa sold out like hot cakes explaining its legendary level popularity. There is another machine available in the same price range and that is the Kawasaki ZX10R but people are more interested in the Busa.

The 2021 version of the Hayabusa maintained its bulbous water drop design language but comes with changes like aerodynamically refined fairing that goes from front headlight to the taillight in a single fluidic flow. Complete lighting system is now LED from headlight to taillight and the turn indicators, all are now LED units.

There are dual sharper and longer exhaust mufflers which are completed chrome plated for striking appeal. The alloy wheels are also new addition to the bike and this time gets seven spoke in design offering better stability to the bike. There are three colour options on the new 2021 Suzuki Hayabusa viz, Glass Sparkle Black/Candy Burnt Gold, Metallic Mat Sword Silver/Candy Daring Red and Pearl Brilliant White/Metallic Mat Stellar Blue.

Coming to the engine, the Busa continues to employ same 1340cc, inline four-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel injected engine breathing through a 16-valve head. However, this powerplant is overhauled and the company has added better parts, re-designed oil channels in the crankshaft, lighter pistons and connecting rods, redesigned intake and exhaust system for delivering better low-end power and torque.

With all this changes and BS6 compliance, the engine belts out 187.7 bhp of max power at 9700 rpm and 150 Nm of metal bending torque at 7000 rpm. The number might seem a bit lesser than the previous model; the performance is expected to remain more or less the same. The transmission is handled by a 6-speed gearbox mated to slipper clutch and comes with bidirectional quickshifter.

Coming to the electronics and features, the company did a great thing by keeping the classic analogue dials for the speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge and engine temperature. At the centre, you got to see a full colour TFT display for rest of the information and settings of the bike.

Suzuki Hayabusa

It is the first time when Suzuki Hayabusa got plethora of electronics onboard that makes it an easy to manage and predictable bike to have. The Busa is installed with Suzuki Intelligent Ride System which takes into account the following measurements and allows the rider to choose the best setting for him/her before starting the ride. These are – Power Mode Selector, Anti-lift control system, bi-directional quick shift system, Engine Brake Control system, Motion Track Control System.

You also get anti-lock braking system, multi-level traction control system, 6-axis IMU based cornering ABS and traction control for optimum performance and best safety standards. The braking performance comes from latest Brembo Stylema 4-piston callipers gripping the twin 320 mm rotors at the front. On the rear, you get a single 260 mm disc gripped by a single-piston Nissin calliper.

Coming to the suspension, the Busa gets 43 mm KYB front USD forks with diamond like carbon coating for least amount of friction with the sliding parts. At the rear, there is a linked-type monoshock suspension again sourced from KYB. Both the suspension components are fully adjustable for preload, compression damping and rebound damping.

No hyperbike is complete without a set of leech like grippy tyres from world’s best tyre manufacturer. 2021 version of the Hayabusa is equipped with Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S22 tyres especially designed for this legendary bike. These new set of tyres offer improved dry grip, better performance in wet conditions, greater all-round traction and agility, while retaining a great level of durability.

It is unorthodox to talk about fuel efficiency because superbike enthusiasts don’t actually care about the fuel price.
