Best Jawa Bikes in India - AutoBreeds.com

Jawa is a Czech motorcycle manufacturer which started making motorcycles in 1929 in Czechoslovakia. The trend continued for decades and the very European bikes entered the Indian market and became hugely popular among the bike lovers. Here is the price list of Best Jawa Bikes in India in 2023-24.

Best Jawa Bikes Price List in India:

Model Price (Ex-showroom Delhi)
Jawa Forty-Two ₹ 1,69,415
Jawa Standard ₹ 1,78,415
Jawa 42 2.1 ₹ 1,83,942
Jawa Perak ₹ 2,06,187

However, all the Jawa bikes that were plying on our roads, way back in 60s and 70s were two-stroke bikes. The very 2-stroke engine technology that gave them distinct exhaust note which was the main reason for people to ride them and keep Jawa bikes as their beloved family members. As the two-stroke bikes were replaced with 4-stroke technology, the Jawa was discontinued in India and even in other parts of the world.

Resurrecting the brand, Classic Legends relaunched the Jawa brand in India and also in some other countries with a licence of operating the Jawa brand from Jawa Moto, Czech. In 2018, the company launched three bikes, the Jawa, Forty-Two and the Perak out of which only the first two bikes were delivered due to production deficiency.

Right now, we have a total of five Jawa bikes on sale in the country with 42 Bobber being the newest entrant.  All the bikes have similar face and the ride is comfortable targeting at the touring friendly customers. The latest bike from Jawa is far better in quality than the previous Jawa bikes.

With these bikes, Jawa is aiming to claim a piece of pie from the classic bikes segment which is dominated by the Royal Enfield. Despite a fierce competition, people are well divided with their choices on which are the best bikes for them. At one side, Royal Enfield have cult following and the Jawa is a new brand which runs on its decades old charm.

The mileage of Jawa bikes is slightly lower than the competition due to powerful and high-revving engines. Therefore one has to be careful while buying Jawa bikes as petrol price is high in our country.

We have only talked about the ex-showroom price which does not include the RTO tax and bike insurance. These separate amounts are required to be paid while registering the bike for regular use. Let’s get into the details of each bike from the house of Jawa.

Jawa Forty-Two

The most affordable bike in Jawa’s portfolio is none other than the Jawa Forty-Two. It is based on the classic Jawa Standard motorcycle but comes with modern elements for enticing the youth with its striking riding posture and the colour options.

There are two variants of the Forty-Two available right now – one with singe channel ABS and the other with Dual-channel ABS. For the base variant, the Forty-Two demands Rs 1.72 lakh ex-showroom while the top-of-the-line Forty-Two with dual channel ABS will set you back by Rs 1.81 lakh ex-showroom. Both the prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi.

Jawa Forty-Two

Jawa Forty-Two has been made to ensure that young riders are attracted to the Brand which is seen by many as ‘only made for middle age people’ as its bikes are good for long distance touring. Forty-Two unlike other classic bikes is stripped of chrome and comes with blacked out handlebar, engine and exhaust offering a sporty look. Not only this, but also the handlebars are positioned such that the rider has to lean a bit forward when compared to a full-blown classic motorcycle.

Jawa is offering the Forty-Two is various matte and glossy colour options. The Matte list includes – Starlight Blue, Lumos Lime, Halley’s Teal and Galactic Green. The Glossy list offers two colours – Nebula Blue and Comet Red. That said, the Forty-two is the only bike in Jawa’s line-up that comes in six different shades making choice is really tough on this one as most of the colours make the bike look strikingly beautiful.

The ergonomics, as mentioned above, are comfortable for city rides as well as for touring even though it is not completely upright and relaxed posture. With handlebar set a slightly lower side, the rider has to lean a bit forward in a kind of street sporty posture. Still, the rider won’t feel uncomfortable over long journeys.

At the heart of the Jawa Forty-Two is a 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, 293cc, single cylinder, fuel injected engine belting out a max power of 27 bhp and 27 Nm torque at unknown engine rpm. With a kerb weight of just 172 kg, the bike feels spirited and eager to move and no way is it sluggish like some other bikes in the market. There is a 6-speed gearbox with carefully selected gear ratios making it a good city commuter as well as capable highway tourer.

Jawa Forty-Two

It takes about 14 seconds for the Jawa Forty-Two to reach 100 kmph mark and the top speed of around 130 kmph is achieved when the throttle is pinned to the max on a straight road. Speaking about the cruising speed, you can munch the miles anywhere between 90-110 kmph without any issue the engine is liquid-cooled unit and no issue of engine overheating with arise on long journeys.

As a charm of the yesteryears, the Forty-Two is equipped with dual exhaust mufflers one on either side which is designed to sound like a 2-stroke engine. Since, it is a 4-stroke engine, the exhaust volume is lower than a 2-stroke engine but the exhaust note is pretty decent and aural. Apart from this, if you want louder sound, you get 5-step adjustable baffles inside the exhaust pipe which can be changed at the service centre according to your taste.

Classic Legends, the parent company is claiming that the Forty-Two can cover about 30-32 km in a single litre of petrol especially on the highways. And, the bike comes installed with a 14-litre tank that when combined with the average mileage of 30 kmpl can easily let you cover 420 km in a single tankful. This kind of range will ensure that you won’t be lined up in a fuel station every now and then. For a regular tourer, a range of 400+ km is what needed on a daily basis or just one top-up per day, if you are going to charter the whole length and breadth of the country.

Jawa Forty-Two is a pretty bare to bone bike when it comes to the features department. There is nothing special in terms of electricals or electronics. The instrument cluster is a single pod offset unit featuring an analogue speedometer and a fuel gauge with reverse sweep for both the dials. A small LCD screen lingers on the speedometer displaying only the odometer. Not even trip meters could creep on the dash which a bad move is considering the bike is designed to be used on highways more often.

The headlight cluster is fitted with a halogen bulb and same can be said about the tail lamp as well. All the turn indicators are also lit with halogen bulbs and no LED lighting used on the bike. Maybe reserved for future updates. Who knows?

Jawa Forty-Two

Jawa Forty-Two is built around double cradle frame which holds the engine as a separate member. The wheelbase is kept balanced at 1369 mm which is neither too short nor too long making it a perfect city commuter as well as stable highway cruiser. At 765 mm, the seat height is pretty accessible for the riders of all heights. If you are as short as 5 feet 3 inches tall, you can easily ride the bike in the city and balancing those 172 kilos of weight won’t be a tough task.

Coming to the suspension, there is a pair of telescopic forks at the front and twin spring-loaded shock absorbers with hydraulic dampers at the rear. This setup is well-calibrated for making it comfortable to ride on the city roads and be able to absorb those annoying potholes as well as offer a solid ride on the highways.

Coming to the braking department, there is a 280 mm disc brake at the front gripped by a floating calliper. While the rear gets a 153 mm drum brake in the base variant with single channel ABS and 240 mm disc brake unit is present in the top variant with dual channel ABS.

Jawa Forty-Two rides on the shiny steel rims with wire spokes to remind you of the classic bikes. The front tyre is 90/90 on 18-inch wheel and rear tyre is 120/80 on a 17-inch wheel. Both the tyres are tubed units.

Jawa Standard

The next bike in the Jawa’s India line-up is the Jawa Standard. It is a completely classic bike with the elements of nostalgia for many riders out there. Jawa Standard is meant only for those who are looking for a cult of a motorcycle with its roots penetrated deep in the history of the brand. Decades ago, there was a bike, the Jawa, small, low-slung standard motorcycle made for city rides and its was powered by a 2-stroke engine.

The exhaust sound was a signature music record for many riders back then and the trends continued kept alive by handful of riders from those times. There are still some 2-stroke Jawa bikes plying on our roads or kept as a masterpiece in someone’s house. This shows the love of people towards their motorcycles especially which cannot be forgotten.

The Jawa Standard and the Forty-Two shares the same platform, same engine, the design as well as the cycle parts. Only thing that differentiates Jawa Standard is the visual cues and the riding posture. This particular bike comes loaded with chrome everywhere from the engine and exhaust to the handlebars, fuel tank and the mirrors. Hence chromed-up parts are a first plus point for the Jawa Lovers out there.

Jawa Standard

Moving to the ergonomics, Jawa Standard offers a comfortable upright riding posture as the handlebars are slightly pulled-back and are raised a bit when compared to the Forty-Two. It is a bike that offers neutral ergonomics which are best suited for both city rides as well as long rides.

There are two variants of the Jawa Standard – One with single channel ABS and the other with dual channel ABS. The cheaper variant with rear drum brake and single channel ABS will set you back by Rs 1.81 lakh ex-showroom while the one with dual disc brakes and dual channel ABS asks for Rs 1.90 lakh ex-showroom. Top-of-the-line Khaki & Midnight Grey colour editions are priced at Rs 1.96 lakh ex-showroom, New Delhi.

Jawa Standard is available in a total five colour options – Grey, Black, Maroon, Khaki and Midnight Grey. The three classic colours are offered with oodles of chrome parts as well as contrasting off-set yellow creases all around the body panels. These colours and overall detailing make the bike to clearly stand apart from the crowd of standard cruiser bikes available in the market. On the other hand, Khaki and Midnight Grey gets blacked-out parts.

However, as opposed to a long list of colour options available on the Royal Enfield Classic 350, which is the chief rival of the Jawa Standard, the standard doesn’t offer many options.

Jawa Standard 300 is powered by a 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, 293cc, single cylinder, fuel injected engine that breathes through a 4-valve head and delivers 27 bhp of max power and 27 Nm of peak torque at unspecified engine speeds. With these numbers made by the engine, the standard feels quick off the line and the performance is something to take note of. When compared to the Classic 350, the performance of the Standard is far superior and torquey in the mid-range. Whether it is in the city of the highway, the bike doesn’t feel underpowered or sluggish. A 6-speed gearbox handles the reduction duties and sends power to the rear wheel via a chain drive.

On the performance front, the Jawa Standard sprints from zero to 100 kmph is around 14 seconds and can go up to a top speed in the region of 130 kmph. Zero to 60 kmph is achieved in around 5 seconds. Speaking about the cruising speed, you can munch the miles anywhere between 90-110 kmph without any issue.

Jawa Standard

From the past, there are twin chrome exhausts on either side of the bike that are designed by sound engineers to make it act as battering sound of 2-stroke motor. There are five level of baffle adjustment available for different level of loudness. You can adjust the same from any service centre and get the sound as you like.

Speaking about the mileage, the Jawa Standard returns a claimed mileage of 34 kmpl and out in the real-world scenario, the bike can provide anywhere between 30 to 32 kmpl on the highways and tad lower in the city rides. There is a 14-litre fuel tank that can provide a riding range well over 400 km in a single tankful making your rides stress-free on long journey.

Again, the dashboard of the Jawa Standard lacks even some of the basic readouts. There is a single pod instrument cluster which is part analogue and part digital. This particular unit is integrated into the headlight cowl which is too far for the rider to clearly see the numbers and becomes hard to view as it reflects the sunlight during day time. You get an analogue speedometer and a fuel gauge with unique reverse sweep. A small LCD screen displays the odometer reading and nothing else. You don’t get trip meters either or anything modern readouts for that matter.

Being a touring-spec bike, it is expected to come with important readings like trip meters, eco indicator, gear position indicator and a trip computer. Bluetooth connectivity is a far-fetched thing to have on the Jawa Standard.

To keep its retro elements intact, the Standard comes with halogen bulb in the headlight assembly with a clear glass covering. You get halogen bulbs everywhere else, be it turn indicators or the taillight.

Jawa Standard is held together by a double cradle frame with twin down tubes supporting the engine and the transmission. This frame is decently rigid and gets the job done. Proper balance to the chassis is provided by a wheelbase of 1369 mm that is neither too short for highway rides nor too long to make things uncomfortable in the congested city roads either.

Jawa Standard

With a seat height of just 765 mm, it is well accessible to shorter riders and might feel a bit cramped for taller riders especially out on long rides. If you are 5’-3” tall, you can easily manage the bike in the city as a kerb weight of 172 kg.

The suspension system on the Jawa Standard is comprised of telescopic forks at the front and twin spring-loaded shock absorbers with hydraulic dampers accompanied by gas canisters at the rear. This setup is on the softer side and takes on the bad patches of roads in the city limits with ease. The bike feels confident on the highways as well. Ground clearance on the bike is 165 mm which is on-par with the competition.

Jawa Standard is brought to a halt with the help of two brake setups in both the variants. The base variant comes with front 280 mm disc brake gripped by a floating calliper and 153 mm drum brake at the rear with single channel ABS. Moving on to the top variant, the bike gets additional 240 mm rear disc brake with 280 mm disc brake unit carried from the base variant and safety net is provided by a dual channel ABS.

Both the front and the rear wheels are spoked units with steel rims which can only is available with tubed tyres of 90/90-18 and 120/80-17 at the front and the rear.

Jawa 42 2.1

With time, everything needs to adapt and this is highly acceptable for motorcycles. On contrary to the retro theme of the Forty-Two, here we have a 42 with modern elements. Jawa launched the reworked Forty-Two motorcycle and renamed it the 42 2.1. It is a bit mouthful on the name and it does come with a few changes from the previous model. The new 42 2.1 is now even more eye catchy thanks to the racy colours and lines with all-black theme for the engine and the rest of the components that isn’t a body panel.

Now, the complete engine and transmission, swingarm, handlebar, front forks and rear-view mirrors are all painted in black that enhances the charm of this retro-modern motorcycle and makes it to shine in the eyes of young riders looking for something sporty yet classic.

Jawa 42 2.1

42 2.1 has only one variant on offer that comes with blacked out cart-wheel styled alloy wheels and tubeless tyres with dual disc brakes and dual channel ABS. It carries a price tag of Rs 1.94 lakh ex-showroom, New Delhi. The price is spot-on and is well-within the competitiveness among the rivals. Coming to the colour options, the Jawa 42 2.1 is offered in three colours – Allstar Black, Sirius White and Orion Red. All these colours are matte and has offset racing stripe on the top of the fuel tank with ‘Classic Legends’ mentioned on it.

Jawa 42 2.1 is a visual upgrade over the Forty-Two and also gets a more refined engine and sturdier chassis which is now more stable and inspire confidence around the corners. The side stand and other lower end components are adjusted to offer more cornering clearance on the bike. A pair of bar-end rear view mirrors are available as standard equipment that offer good view of what’s behind.

The all-new bike offers similar ergonomics to the rider which is well comfortable for city rides as well as for highway rides. A wider handlebar allows the rider to be a bit more aggressive on the bike. One best thing that happened to the new bike is the better padding on the seat and rider will clearly feel the difference between the seat comfort on the regular Forty-Two and 42 2.1. However, a lower saddle height of 765 mm and high footpegs position might feel cramped for taller riders but for the short rides, the bike is a perfect touring machine.

Jawa has worked on the 293cc engine from the Forty-Two and now it is far more refined, punchy and throttle response is superior and is good for aggressive and sporty riding. The 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, 293cc, single cylinder, fuel injected motor continues to pump out 27 bhp of power and 27 Nm torque. The performance of the 42 2.1 is crispier than before and rider will love the engine response and performance especially in the mid-range. Transmission duties are taken care of by 6-speed gearbox with well-sorted gearing for city and highway rides.

Jawa 42 2.1

The performance of the 42 2.1 is similar to its other two siblings as it hits 60 kmph in 5 seconds and 100 comes up in 14 seconds. The top speed is around 130 kmph with cruising speed is around 100 kmph. Liquid-cooling system with exposed cooling fins keeps the motor without any over-heating issues.

Jawa 42 2.1 continue to come equipped with twin blacked-out exhaust mufflers one on either side. The exhaust system is designed in such in way to recreate the sound of 2-stroke engine from a 4-stroke engine that s fitted on the bike. For purists, the company has offered an option of adjusting the exhaust baffles up to 5 levels to increase sound of the exhaust note.

With the same engine and gearbox, the 42 2.1 will cover around 30 km in a single litre of petrol which means with a 14-litre tank capacity, the bike will not require top-up before completing 420 km. This kind of range is well-accepted for a touring motorcycle. However, same cannot be said about the city mileage as frequent gear changes, throttle inputs and braking reduce the mileage by a good margin. In the city, expect the bike to need refuelling every about 350 km on a tank-to tank basis.

Like all other Jawa bikes, the 42 2.1 continues to feature same instrument cluster that offers only a reverse sweep speedometer and a reverse sweep fuel gauge. This time, the LCD screen also has twin trip meters which can be toggled by a dedicated button on the right hand switch-gear. Nothing more than that is available, we have expected more number of readouts to come in the new bike but Classic Legends is content by offering trip metres only. All the lighting, including headlight, taillight and all four turn indicators, utilises halogen bulbs and there is no presence of LED on the bike.

Built around a sturdier double cradle frame that can be seen on the Forty-Two and the Standard bikes. The wheelbase remains same at 1369 mm and the handling is improved by a fair margin. It continues to be suspended on a pair of telescopic forks at the front and twin gas-charged shock absorbers with hydraulic dampers. This time, the suspension is stiffened a bit at both the front and the rear that reduces chassis flex around the corners.

Jawa 42 2.1

The ground clearance is 165 mm and now, the bike doesn’t hit its underbody as much as it happened in the regular Forty-Two. The rear suspension is preload adjustable by 7 steps depends on your requirements.

Coming to the braking department, there is a 280 mm disc brake at the front which is gripped by a floating calliper and a 240 mm disc brake unit with single piston floating calliper. A dual channel ABS accompanies the braking system for safer braking.

Jawa 42 2.1 rides on stylish blacked-out alloy wheels which comes wrapped with 90/90-18 and 120/80-17 section tyres at the front and the rear. Both the tyres are tubeless that are sourced from MRF and offers respectable grip levels.

Jawa 42 Bobber

Recently, Classic Legends launched their latest offering in the form of Jawa 42 Bobber. From far you can easily make out the difference between the Perak and the 42 Bobber due to the styling changes. If you look at the bike from close, you will see that the 42 Bobber’s front end is based on the design of the Yezdi Roadster while the rear continues to use the elements of the Jawa Perak.

Jawa 42 Bobber

It has been launched at a price tag of Rs 2.06 lakh ex-showroom for the single-tone Mystic Copper colour option. The Moonstone White colour is available for Rs 2.07 lakh while the dual-tone colour variant of Jasper Red with White is priced at Rs 2.09 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi.

Similar to that of the Perak, the height adjustable single seat is connected to the main frame of the bike above the monoshock. The engine is also derived from the Yezdi series of bikes with larger throttle bodies for high performance.

The liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, 4-valve unit delivers a maximum power of 30.2 bhp and peak torque of 32.74 Nm. The engine is paired to a 6-speed gearbox same as seen on the other Jawa and Yezdi bikes.

This particular bike offers great performance for a classic bobber with 0-100 kmph time of around 9 seconds and a top speed in the range of 140 kmph. Just like the Jawa Perak, 42 Bobber comes fitted with a rear monoshock suspension while the front-end has a regular telescopic fork.

Jawa 42 Bobber

What is not similar to the Perak is the presence of a full LED headlight cluster and a single-pod fully-digital instrument panel. Derived from the Yezdi Roadster, the meter console offers all the important details to the rider. Bluetooth connectivity suite is given a miss this time as well.

Jawa 42 Bobber is positioned as a lifestyle motorcycle for the young generation and cannot serve as a bike for all purpose. One can get an aftermarket pillion seat installed on the 42 bobber for carrying a pillion.

Jawa Perak

Finally, we have the flagship bike from the house of Classic Legend’s Jawa. The Perak was the first factory-made bobber motorcycle in India and we have already talked about its modern sibling bobber, the 42 Bobber. This particular machine is developed from the Jawa Standard which can be seen from the ditto front half of the bike.

The uniqueness of the Jawa Perak lies in the fact that it is a single seater bobber motorcycle with a long, really long wheelbase as that of a cruiser bike. It is a completely non-practical bike and what you can do max with this bike is to ride all-alone in the city limits and out on the twisties.

Jawa Perak

The lack of rear seat also makes it difficult to carry a heavy back pack as it will only give rise to pain in the back on long rides. Jawa Perak only allows a small bag pack to be carried on rides. It is only made for lone rides away from the hustle of everyday life and not to far from the urban areas.

The price tag of the Jawa Perak is Rs 2.09 lakh ex-showroom, New Delhi making it the most expensive motorcycle in the company’s line-up. It is available only in single colour option of matte black and it looks striking in the same. No other graphic drama is present other than simple yellow lines that tell most of the story.

There is a single cantilever type single seat under which the taillight is embedded which looks cool and stylish. Jawa is also not offering any option for a pillion seat of luggage rack for those who really want these items for little bit of practicality. Coming to the ergonomics, the riding posture is completely upright with handlebar similar in position and design as that of Jawa Standard.

Moving on to the powertrain of the Perak, this classic bobber motorcycle comes fitted with a bored-out version of the 293cc engine and it now displaces 334cc. With an increased engine capacity, the power and torque output has also been improved and it now churns out 30 bhp of power and peak twisting force of 32.74 Nm. The power is transferred to the rear tyre via a chain drive that is connected to a 6-speed gearbox.

With a kerb weight of 175 kg, the Perak is not too heavy for a bobber and also delivers greater performance then the Standard and the Forty-Two. Expect the bike to hit 100 kmph in under 14 seconds and reach a better top speed of over 130 kmph.

Speaking about the fuel efficiency, the Perak returns more or less 30 kmpl on the highways and around 27 kmpl in the city rides. The fuel tank continues to hold 14 litres of petrol and can deliver a range of around 380 km in the city usage or near 400 km if ridden on the highways.

Jawa Perak

From just the look of it, Perak’s front half body including the headlight, instrument cluster, handlebar, fuel tank and engine bay are a direct lift from the Jawa Standard. The exhaust system has twin exhaust mufflers but are sleek and smaller.

At the front, there is regular telescopic forks but the rear gets a revised monoshock suspension unit which is hidden under the rider seat. Coming to the brakes, the bike is stopped with the help of disc brakes on both ends with dual channel ABS for enhanced safety.

Jawa Perak still has the same old instrument panel from the Jawa Standard which lacks nearly everything. There is just an analogue speedometer and an analogue fuel gauge which are reverse is sweep and a small LCD screen is present that displaces odometer. As with the Jawa Standard, the cluster is not easy to read and also reflects under direct sunlight.

The retro theme of the Perak allows only the halogen bulbs to be used on it with a clear glass. No LED lights are used in the bike in its present avatar.

Jawa Perak is build around double cradle frame with twin down tubes that goes under the engine supporting it fully. The wheelbase has been increased to 1485 mm which is in the ballpark of cruiser bikes but due to shorter rake angle, you will not face any problem whatsoever in taking U-turns and manoeuvring through narrow allies or traffic clad city roads.

The saddle height on the Perak is still lower at just 750 mm which makes it highly accessible for all kinds of riders. The kerb weight of the bike stands at 175 kg which is slightly higher than the Jawa Standard’s 172 kg.

Jawa Perak

Jawa Perak comes with telescopic forks at the front and an adjustable monoshock suspension at the rear which is fitted right under the rider’s seat. This suspension setup is tuned towards a stiffer side and returns a strong handling characteristic around the corners. However, if you ride the bike over the bad patches of roads, you might end up getting jolts on your back which isn’t a pleasant feeling.

Perak rides of wider tyres compared to its siblings at 100/90-18 section tubed tyre at the front and 140/70-17 section tubed tyre at the rear. Both the tyres are sourced from MRF and offers good grip. The rims are blacked-out steel wheels with wire spokes for providing retro look.

The braking performance of the Perak comes from 280 mm front disc brake and 240 mm rear disc brake with dual channel ABS for better rider safety.

Only certain things are missing on the Perak such a smooth engine, information-rich instrument cluster, no option for pillion seat and luggage rack. Even the suspension is a bit on the stiffer side providing little comfort on the city roads.
