Husqvarna is named after the Swedish town where the company found its origins and in 1903, the company started manufacturing the motorised bicycles or motorcycles as we know them today. Years passed and the company created even better machines especially the off-roading bikes and street bikes.
It was the year 1988 when Husaberg separated from Husqvarna brand as a consequence of MV Agusta buying the original Husqvarna brand in 1987. In March 2013, KTM Group bought the Husqvarna and the Husaberg brand and created something what we know as Husqvarna motorcycles.
Internationally, Husqvarna has any models on sale and many others have been unveiled to be launched in the near future. The engine capacity of Husqvarna bikes ranges from 125cc to over 1000cc. Starting this list is the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 which is an amalgam of a scrambler and a streetfighter motorcycle. Its design is futuristically retro as it comes with fluidic body panels and round headlights.
Since the brand presence of Husqvarna is relatively new, the company has kept the prices of both the bikes pretty aggressive when compared to the KTM counterparts. At 2.20 lakh ex-showroom, New Delhi, the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 is around Rs 17,000 cheaper than the similar spec KTM 250 Duke.
Speaking about the platform, the Svartpilen 250 is made on the exact same platform that is used by the 250 Duke. The steel-trellis frame, suspension components, engine, gearbox and even drivetrain is a direct lift from the KTM 250 Duke. There are certain things that make the bike completely different and they are full LED round headlight, small fully-digital meter console which is also round in shape.
Speaking about the design, the Svartpilen 250 has a darker shade with a contracting light colour as its name translates into ‘Black Arrow.’ There is a single piece fibre panel that runs from the front of the fuel tank to the end of the rider’s seat. A second lighter shade panel takes from there and runs to the rear fender. The registration plate holder is integrated into the rear mudguard while the tail of the bike is completely clean and houses the taillight and the turn indicators.
Svartpilen 250 is developed by keeping comfort and aggressive riding stance in a combination. It gets an upright riding posture but the handlebar is raised and is placed not far from the rider. A rider can hold the handlebar without extending his/her elbows completely. There is a feeling of aggressiveness as well as comfort on the bike.
The fuel tank comes with a luggage rack installed that allows the rider to place small bags on top of the tank without worrying about tying it to the bike. This powerplant belts out 29.63 bhp of max power at 9000 rpm and 24 Nm of peak twisting force at 7500 rpm. No doubt, this motor is a high-revving unit and is directly lifted form the KTM 250 Duke and hence, you can expect similar performance as that of Duke 250. Despite being nearly the same machine as that of Duke 250, the kerb weight of the Svartpilen 250 stands at 166 kg making it few kilos lighter than the near rival. As you slot the bike into first gear and open the throttle wide, the motorcycle pulls clean and crosses the 100 kmph mark in just 9.25 seconds and the powerplant keeps on pulling the bike till it reaches a top speed in the region of 150 kmph.

Husqvarna Vitpilen 250
The next and the last bike in Husqvarna’s Indian portfolio is the Vitpilen 250. This particular bike is made for the race enthusiasts as it is a café racer motorcycle built around a modern and chiselled chassis. There isn’t much difference between the Svartpilen 250 and the Vitpilen 250 in terms of power train and the riding dynamics.
The only thing that makes it a completely different bike and for a different rider base is its highly committed riding posture. There is a pair of clip-on handlebars that are installed way lower than the handlebar seen on the Svartpilen 250.
The rider has to hold the handlebars only after leaning forward way too much. Hence, the Vitpilen is designed and developed by keeping the café racer enthusiasts in mind. You cannot ride on the highways on Vitpilen for the very reason however; it is a great machine to ride on in the city limits and on the hilly areas with natural curves on the roads.
The price of the Vitpilen 250 is a bit less than that of the Svartpilen 250 at Rs 2.19 lakh ex-showroom, New Delhi. And the reason being that it offers a couple of lesser components and even more compact design than its sibling.
