Bajaj Avenger 160

Avenger is a brand that is quite old, starting from the departed soul of the Kawasaki Eliminator which was launched in India in the year 2001, that makes it around two decades old now. In the later years, Bajaj relaunched the cruiser bike in the form of Avenger in the Indian market which was accepted by the masses as the first made in India and affordable cruiser for the masses.

Bajaj Avenger 160

The bike kicked the cruising scenario in India and with time spawned many variants with different engine capacities. A few years ago, Bajaj launched Street version of their Avenger brand and then plonked in a 160cc engine replacing the old 150cc motor and 180cc bike. This new engine made similar power to that of 180cc engine and delivered fuel efficiency in the range of 150cc segment motorcycle. It comes in two paint jobs – Spicy Red and Ebony Black.

Bajaj Avenger 160 is powered by a 160cc 2-valve, air-cooled engine that makes 14.79 bhp at 8500 rpm and 13.7 Nm torque at 7000 rpm. The engine rpm is a bit on the higher side as per cruisers standard but the comfort that this bike provides is far better than any other bikes in the segment. With the BS6 update Avenger 160 gets fuel injection system which enhanced the throttle response and engine refinement. The performance figures might not be very high but you can, without doubt, cruise to places of interest around your city.

The bike gets a single pod instrument cluster which is semi-digital unit with a large speedometer and a small LCD display. You get odometer, twin trip meters and a fuel gauge in the digital display. Oh yes, tachometer is missing and this bike is not for outright performance so you won’t miss it either. Apart from these essential things you get nothing special to write home about.

Bajaj Avenger 160

For safety, you get a single channel ABS with a drum brake at the rear without an option for rear disk brake. Highways are uncertain and hence a dual-channel ABS should be your first priority. However, if you are an experienced rider, a single channel ABS will work fine for you.

You should pick Avenger 160 if you are in a tight budget but you are looking for frequent tours. It is best cruiser bike under a budget as it also provides a fuel economy of around 40-45 kmpl without much effort. This kind of efficiency is required for budget riders during the times of high fuel price. The only big miss is that Bajaj doesn’t provide any official touring accessories for better touring experience.

Bajaj Avenger 220

Moving on to the next motorcycle in this guide to the best cruiser bikes in India which is none other than the elder sibling of Avenger 160. Bajaj Avenger 220 is the largest capacity cruiser available from the house of Bajaj at present. Avenger Cruise 220 is the model which will let to forget everything and munch miles after miles without breaking a sweat. The bike offers a few more features than the Avenger 160 apart from being blessed with a larger engine.

Bajaj Avenger 220

It is available in two shades – White and Black.

At the heart, you get a trusted oil-cooled, single cylinder, 220cc petrol mill churning out maximum power of 18.76 bhp at 8500 rpm and a peak torque of 17.55 Nm at 7000 rpm. The numbers are enough to justify that Avenger 220 will prove to be a good cruiser bike for high speed cruising. You can cruise at 100 kmph all day long.

Unlike the Avenger 160, you get a single pod fully digital instrument cluster with most of the details you seek. The handlebars are designed for comfortable highway riding with your feet set forwards for king like riding posture. With a fuel tank of 13 litres and an average fuel economy of 35 kmpl you can expect the Avenger 220 Cruise to cover up to 450 km before coming to a halt.

Bajaj Avenger 220

Being a bike from Bajaj, there are still some doubts regarding the reliability of the engine and other components as they tend to break down quite frequently. The body panels loosen due to vibrations at higher engine speeds. Jawa Forty-Two

Classic Legends, a subsidiary of Mahindra and Mahindra, revived the Jawa brand in India after decades. The main point was to disturb the sales of Royal Enfield however that could not happen. Well, because Royal Enfield lovers cannot be disloyal to their bikes. Coming back to topic, the Jawa Forty-Two is a retro-modern motorcycle targeted for that audience looking for a highway cruiser.

Jawa Forty-Two

Jawa 42 has a long list of colours to choose from – Galactic Green (Matte), Halley’s Teal (Matte), Lumos Lime (Matte), Starlight Blue (Matte), Comet Red (Glossy), Nebula Blue (Glossy), Allstar Black, Sirius White and Orion Red.

Jawa has a different set of customers that love the sound of two-stroke engines and Jawa has done an excellent job of creating a 2-stroke sound from its twin exhaust mufflers. There is also an option of rearranging the baffles inside the muffle to increase or decrease the exhaust sound.

Powering the Jawa Forty-Two is a 293cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. This fuel injected powerplant pumps out respectable 27 bhp of power and 27 Nm twisting force. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox which makes Jawa Forty-Two one of the two classic bikes to sport a 6-speed cog box.

These numbers, as seen, are quite impressive being proved by the performance of the bike. The Forty-Two is quicker and faster than the Royal Enfield which gets a larger engine. The difference is created by the use of technology in the Jawa.

Jawa Forty-Two

The bike gets straight handlebar which is set lower and the engine and other components are blacked-out to appeal to the customers looking for sporty elements on the bike. The seat is flat and is comfortable enough for long rides. Jawa Forty-Two had to come in this list of best cruiser bikes in India in 2023-24 for its aesthetics and classic styling.

In terms of features, the bike offers a single-pod semi-digital instrument cluster with an inverted-sweep speedometer, fuel gauge, and odometer. Yes, there are no tripmeters available in this cruiser from Jawa.

There are two options available to you, a single disc with single-channel ABS and dual-disc with dual-channel ABS. Price difference between the two variants is around Rs 9000 which is not much when looked from the perspective of safety. On the highways, comfort and safety should be your first priority. There is also a new variant called Jawa 42 2.1 which comes with alloy wheels and a bit for refinement.

Jawa 300

As we have already talked about the Jawa Forty-Two in this guide to the best cruiser bikes in India, there is very little to talk about the Jawa 300 as both the bikes are completely similar in the powertrain department. The only difference is in the aesthetics department as Jawa 300 has more classical design elements than the Forty-Two which looks modern.

Jawa 300

There are several paint schemes on offer such as Jawa Maroon, Jawa Grey, Jawa Black, Khakhi and Midnight Grey.

Jawa 300 has a 293cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine at its heart which is a derivative of the Mahindra Mojo. This fuel injected powerplant pumps out respectable 27 bhp of power and 28 Nm twisting force. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox which makes Jawa 300 one of the two classic bikes to sport a 6-speed cog box.

These numbers, as seen, are quite impressive being proved by the performance of the bike. Jawa 300 is quicker and faster than the Royal Enfield which gets a larger engine. The difference is created by the use of technology in the Jawa.

The retro bike offers loads of chrome which enhances its visual appeal. The rider triangle is more comfortable than the Forty-Two with raised handlebars. Mahindra clearly targeted the Royal Enfield with Jawa 300 and to give classic bike lovers another option.

Jawa 300

Being a classic and retro motorcycle, you won’t get any special feature with the 300. The bike offers a single-pod semi-digital instrument cluster with an inverted-sweep speedometer, fuel gauge and odometer. Yes, there are no tripmeters available in this cruiser from Jawa.

There are two options available in Jawa 300, a single disc with single-channel ABS and dual-disc with dual-channel ABS. Honda H’ness CB350

The Honda H’ness CB350 is the classic answer from Honda to the likes of Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Benelli Imperiale 400. This classic Honda is inspired from the old CB classic bikes from the 70s and is understandable by the looks itself. Honda H’ness CB350 is what Honda needed to tackle the Royal Enfield and Benelli or any other upcoming classic bikes in India in the near future.

Honda H'ness CB350

Honda H’ness is available in many colours to choose from – Precious Red Metallic, Pearl Night Star Black, Matte Marshal Green Metallic, Pearl Night Star Black with Spear Silver Metallic, Athletic Blue Metallic with Virtuous White, Pearl Igneous Black, Matte Marshal Green Metallic (Anniversary Edition), Mat Massive Grey, Matte Steel Black and Metallic With Matte Massive Grey.

Let’s talk about the powertrain of the CB350. The bike gets a 348cc, single cylinder, air-cooled, long stroke engine just as we have seen in the Bullet and Classic 350. This powerplant delivers 20.78 bhp at 5500 rpm and a twisting force of 30 Nm at very low 3,000 rpm. Max torque at such low rpm is what makes this bike a classic cruiser as you down have to rev the engine hard to move ahead. The engine is mated to a 5-speed transmission as we hope that it is smooth as in other Honda motorcycles.

Coming to the performance, we expect the performance to be a batter than the Classic 350 and Imperiale 400 as CB350 weighs in at 181 kg which is 14 kg lighter than the Classic 350 and whole 24 kg lighter than the Imperiale 400. Apart from the weight, H’ness get the highest torque output than its immediate rivals.

Honda CB350 also offers more features than its rivals with a semi-digital single-pod instrument cluster. You can also choose to buy yourself the higher variant with Honda’s Bluetooth connectivity features. There is a traction control system and Honda like to call it Honda Selectable Torque control (HSTC) which will prevent any wheel slip due to abrupt changes in the throttle.

Another feature which is a unique in this segment is Honda Smartphone Voice Control system (HSVCS). This is basically a voice-controlled mechanism used to access features with the help of a connected smartphone. You can give voice commands via a headset which is sold separately. You can get voice-guided GPS navigation, music, calls and message notification with this system.

Honda H'ness CB350

The bike is available in two variants Deluxe and Deluxe pro. The only difference between these two variants is the presence of dual-tone colours, HSTC and Dual-Horns in the Pro variant. Price difference stands at Rs 5000 in both the variants.

Honda CB350 is one of the best cruiser bikes in India as it is correctly priced and offers additional features. The only gripe is that the bike will be available only in the Honda Big Wing showrooms which are around 50 at present. If you are living in a metro city you can easily buy one for yourself and take the longer road.

Next bike in this list of best cruiser bikes in India is the Classic 350. It is the bike for the riders who want to flaunt the retro vibes around them. The package has become far better and desirable with the introduction of new J-series engines. For years, Royal Enfield riders are taking the rough roads to reach the unknown only on the Classic 350.

Royal Enfield Classic 350

Classic 350 has a sturdy built quality as it is completely made of metal and doesn’t give on any road conditions. With upright riding posture and accompanied by mesmerising signature thump of the exhaust, you can go any distance even if there is no road ahead. You get the same 349cc engine that does the job on the Hunter 350 and Meteor 350. The 2-valve, air-cooled, long stroke engine makes modest 20.2 bhp maximum power at 6100 rpm and respectable 27 Nm twisting force at 4000 rpm. This engine allows you to cruise at 85-90 kmph on the highways and top goes up to 120 kmph on the speedometer.

Royal Enfield Classic 350

To keep the retro appeal of the Classic 350, the company has keep the instrument cluster as basic as possible but still there is a small LCD display for regular information. The overall design of the bike is similar to the old bike but a lot has been changed, this classic bike is a charm to ride with smoother engine and better ride quality.

The suspension system comprised of telescopic forks at the front and twin-shock absorbers with hydraulic dampers at the rear. The ride quality is a bit stiff but assuring on the smooth highways. Yezdi Roadster

Here we have another cruiser styled motorcycle, Yezdi Roadster. It is a new offering from the house of Classic Legends in India targeting niche young riders who are looking out for something that stands apart from the crowd of Royal Enfields, Jawas and others. Priced from Rs 2.01 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi, it is a well-priced motorcycle in terms of engine performance and features on offer.

Yezdi Roadster

Speaking about the colour variants, the Roadster is available in – Smoke Grey, Steel Blue, Hunter Green, Chrome Gallant Grey, Chrome Sin Silver, Inferno Red and Glacial White. Our favourite is the Hunter Green.

Moving on to the engine, the bike is powered by a 334cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-valve engine with fuel injection system. This motor pumps out healthy 29.29 bhp of power at 7300 rpm and 29 Nm of torque at 6500 rpm. It is a high-revving engine and thus gets a 6-speed gearbox with tall gearing. Nothing less than 1st gear is required for tackling the city traffic.

Performance-wise, the Roadster does 0 to 100 kmph in around 9 seconds and goes up to a top speed of 140 kmph. It is close to the likes of Dominar 400 than the other Classic bikes bike Classic 350.

Yezdi has done a good job in including modern features like full LED headlight and a full-digital instrument cluster for enticing the young generations. The meter offers all the important details to the rider such as speedometer, tachometer, trip meters, gear position indicator and more.

Yezdi Roadster

The bike is suspended on the telescopic fork at the front and twin-shock absorbers at the rear. Braking department is taken care of by 320 mm large front disc and 240 mm rear disc, both of which are gripped by Bybyre callipers for strong braking performance.

The Roadster offers 790 mm seat height and the riders have to manage 184 kg of heft in the city traffic which shouldn’t be a challenge for medium height riders but can be a problem for short riders due to wide seat.

Royal Enfield Meteor 350

The next one is the Royal Enfield Meteor 350, the cruiser bike from the Chennai based manufacturer. Meteor looks like the old Thunderbird however, it is not the case.  The frame, engine and everything in the bike is new and offers modern ride quality and handling aspects. It is said that the new Meteor 350 is manufactured in the same factory as the 650 twins and has utilised the advanced manufacturing methods offering excellent build quality and reliability.

Royal Enfield Meteor 350

The three variants of meteor 350 along with their prices are: Fireball – Rs 2.05 lakh, Stellar – Rs 2.12 lakh and Supernova – Rs 2.22 lakh. These prices are ex-showroom, Delhi and does not include RTO tax and Bike insurance which you will have to pay extra.

Here are the colour options on the Meteor 350 across all its three variants – Fireball Yellow, Fireball Red, Blue Metallic, Black Matte, Red Metallic, Brown, Blue Dual-Tone, Fireball Blue, Fireball Matt Green, Supernova Red.

Since the Meteor is a cruiser bike, the riding posture is laid-back with raised handlebars and forward-set footpegs. As you sit on the saddle, you will experience the well-padded ergonomically designed rider’s seat and perfectly positioned handlebars. In this posture, anyone with good level of endurance can easily ride for over 500 km in a single day.

Coming to the powertrain of the Meteor, you get to see a newly developed J-series, long stroke engine that displaces 411cc and is cooled by air and oil-cooling system. It continues to use a 2-valve head but employs electronic fuel injection system for fuel delivery. The new motor is able to put out 20.2 bhp at 6100 rpm and 27 Nm torque at 4000 rpm. All this power is transferred to the rear wheel via a 5-speed gearbox with tall gearing.

Speaking about the performance, the bike hit 100 kmph in just 15 seconds and touches a top speed of 120 kmph. The cruising speed on the Meteor is pegged at 90-100 kmph which will allow you to cover longer distances in lesser time.

The mileage on the new Meteor is around 35 to 40 kmpl completely depending upon the speed at which you ride on the highways. In the city, you can expect anywhere between 38-42 kmpl if ridden with a light wrist.

Royal Enfield Meteor 350

The instrument console on the Meteor is pretty interesting as it comes with a premium looking semi-digital instrument. There is a round speedometer inside of which is a digital screen offering info on odometer, trip meters, gear position indicator, fuel gauge and more. Also, there is a tripper navigation system that can be connected with your smartphone to get turn by turn navigation right on the colourful round screen.

All the variants of the Meteor come with alloy wheels as standard and the Supernova variant gets machine finished alloy wheels. The tubeless tyres offer peace-of-mind while you are on long hauls. You also get LED DRL around the round clear-glass halogen headlamp cluster.

The front telescopic forks are tuned towards softer side while the rear twin-shock absorbers are on the stiffer side. This kind of setup is useful for two riders as the rear will take up the additional weight and keep the bike stable at high speeds. Meteor is brought to a halt by 300 mm and 270 mm disc brakes at the front and the rear with dual channel ABS keeping the rider safe under hard braking conditions.

Jawa 42 Bobber

Recently, Classic Legends launched their latest offering in the form of Jawa 42 Bobber. From far you can easily make out the difference between the Perak and the 42 Bobber due to the styling changes. If you look at the bike from close, you will see that the 42 Bobber’s front end is based on the design of the Yezdi Roadster while the rear continues to use the elements of the Jawa Perak.

Jawa 42 Bobber

It has been launched at a price tag of Rs 2.06 lakh ex-showroom for the single-tone Mystic Copper colour option. The Moonstone White colour is available for Rs 2.07 lakh while the dual-tone colour variant of Jasper Red with White is priced at Rs 2.09 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi.

Similar to that of the Perak, the height adjustable single seat is connected to the main frame of the bike above the monoshock. The engine is also derived from the Yezdi series of bikes with larger throttle bodies for high performance.

The liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, 4-valve unit delivers a maximum power of 30.2 bhp and peak torque of 32.74 Nm. The engine is paired to a 6-speed gearbox same as seen on the other Jawa and Yezdi bikes.

This particular bike offers great performance for a classic bobber with 0-100 kmph time of around 9 seconds and a top speed in the range of 140 kmph. Just like the Jawa Perak, 42 Bobber comes fitted with a rear monoshock suspension while the front-end has a regular telescopic fork.

Jawa 42 Bobber

What is not similar to the Perak is the presence of a full LED headlight cluster and a single-pod fully-digital instrument panel. Derived from the Yezdi Roadster, the meter console offers all the important details to the rider. Bluetooth connectivity suite is given a miss this time as well.

Jawa 42 Bobber is positioned as a lifestyle motorcycle for the young generation and cannot serve as a bike for all purpose. One can get an aftermarket pillion seat installed on the 42 bobber for carrying a pillion.

Jawa Perak

Over and above the price of modern and well-equipped 42 Bobber comes the Jawa Perak. It is more of a retro machine with retro elements like halogen headlamp and analogue instrumentation. At present, the Perak will set you back by Rs 2.09 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi. It is available only in a single Matte Black colour option.

Jawa Perak

Perak is powered by a 334cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-valve engine. This power plant now churns out 30 bhp of max power and 32.74 Nm of torque. It is paired to a 6-speed gearbox same as seen on the other two Jawa bikes.

Comparing it with the newly launched 42 Bobber, the Perak is offer a tad lower performance due to smaller throttle bodies. But it is on par with the competition in terms of outright acceleration and highway performance. Among all three Jawa bikes, Perak has a rear monoshock suspension while the front end is suspended by a regular telescopic fork.

Headlight design, instrument console, handlebars, fuel tank, all resembles the other two Jawa bikes. Being a classic and retro motorcycle, you won’t get any special feature with the Perak either. The bike offers a single-pod semi-digital instrument cluster with an inverted-sweep speedometer, fuel gauge and odometer. Yes, there are no tripmeters available in this bobber from Jawa.

Moving on to the next classic cruiser in the guide to best cruiser bikes in India which is Benelli Imperiale 400. When Imperiale 400 was first launched in India with a lower price tag of Rs 1.89 lakh but now the cost is pretty high at 2.25 lakh ex-showroom, which is much greater than any other classic cruiser with similar technology and performance. It proves its mettle with refined engine, comfortable ergonomics and pretty good riding dynamics and much more.

Benelli Imperiale 400

Royal Enfield with their new J-series engines is giving a tough fight to the Benelli Imperiale in terms of performance and better contained NVH levels. At present, Imperiale tackle the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Honda H’ness CB350 and Yezdi Roadster. There are three colour options on the Imperiale – Red, Black and Silver. The Red is the best looking shade on the bike.

Benelli Imperiale 400 is powered by a 373cc single cylinder, long stroke engine which is good for 20.7 bhp at 6000 rpm and 29 Nm torque at 3500 rpm. The power output could have been higher for the bike gets a larger engine than its tow two prime nemesis. The Imperiale is overweight at 205 kg which is by far the heaviest motorcycle we have encounter in this article. Despite such weight, the riders claim that Imperiale is an amazing cruiser bike to have.

The company has offered a bit more features than what you get with a Royal Enfield Classic 350. You get a twin-pod instrument cluster with speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip meters, gear position indicator etc thereby providing all the basic information about your motorcycle.

Benelli Imperiale 400

Imperiale 400’s large dimensions and high kerb weight are essential for high speed stability on the highways. The only problem you might encounter is the lack of Benelli dealerships in India as there are a little over 20 touch points of the Chinese manufacturer.

Choose Benelli Imperiale 400 if you are a fan of classic Italian cruiser bike that can take you miles before a stop. The bike has comfortable ergonomics and aesthetics to drool over. The hulk of a bike delivers a fuel economy of about 30-32 km per litre and with a 12-litre fuel tank capacity you can go for 360-380 km in a single tankful.

Finally, we have the most expensive bike in the 250cc category. It is the Keeway K-Light 250V. The Keeway is Hungarian motorcycle manufacturer who has setup shop in India in collaboration with Benelli. Keeway bikes are available exclusively through Benelli showrooms in the country. The 250V from Keeway is priced at Rs 3.09 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi making it the most expensive 250cc bike offering a bit lower value when compared to other bikes in this list.

In terms of looks, the K-Light 250V has the stance of a cruiser bike with low slung design. There are three paint schemes to choose from -Matte Blue, Matte Dark Grey and Matte Black. There is a single-pod digital-analogue meter console mounted on the fuel tank. It offers most of the useful information to the rider including a gear-position indicator.

The 20-litre capacity of the tank can provide a long riding range. An average fuel economy of around 35 kmpl can provide up to 700 km pf riding range which is highest in this category.
