The first bike in the list of Best BMW bikes in India is the G 310 R. It is a naked roadster motorcycle made for Indian roads. The German company has tied up with TVS Motor Company and co-developed and manufactured the motorcycle in Indian for the world. At present, the bike is aggressively priced at Rs 2.7 lakh ex-showroom, New Delhi which is less than the KTM 390 Duke by a good margin.

It is offered in three colours – Polar White with Racing Blue, Racing red and Cosmic black.

BMW G 310 R

The G 310 R, in BMW’s speak, is a roadster motorcycle that is developed for city rides and up to a certain level, highway rides as well. It is equipped with a spacious and long seat that comfortably fits the rider and the pillion. A wide and flat handlebar is positioned well that ensures the rider do not need to lean forward and acquires an upright riding stance. This makes it a comfortable city commuter and highway-friendly machine. This new BS6 version now has smoother engine and thus, longer rides are fun and memorable ones.

Powering the BMW G 310 R is a four-stroke, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine displacing 313cc and inhales via a 4-valve DOHC head. This engine churns out 33.5 bhp of power at 9250 rpm and 28 Nm of peak torque at 7500 rpm. There is a 6-speed constant-mesh gearbox paired with the engine via a slipper clutch.

With all these numbers, the bike can easily touch 100 kmph from zero in under 7 seconds and can reach a top speed of 143 kmph as claimed by the company. This kind of performance is more than sufficient for daily rides and long-distance touring.

The G 310 R can deliver a fuel economy of 30 kmpl under mixed riding conditions with highway mileage going above 32 kmpl at a constant speed. With just 11 litres of petrol in a single tank hold, you can manage only about 300-320 km before needing the top-up.

A TFT unit with Bluetooth connectivity would have been appreciated. The new BS6 version comes with a full LED headlight setup offering good illumination at night rides.

Speaking about the features, the bike gets a 5-inch colourful TFT display which has an option of Bluetooth connectivity. The display shows a plethora of information including missed calls and messages notifications when connected with your smartphone. There is a lap counter, top speed counter, 0-60 kmph counter and much more. You can also go anywhere with GPS by getting turn-by-turn navigation directly on the display. BMW G 310 GS

The G 310 GS comes fitted with log travel suspension at both ends with front USD forks offering wheel travel of 180 mm, and the rear monoshock suspension also has 180 mm of rear wheel travel. This suspension setup has increased the ground clearance to 220 mm making it easier to ride bikes on off-road trails.

This entry-level adventure bike from BMW Motorrad is installed with 19-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel with dual-purpose tyres slapped on them. The front tyre size is 110/80 R19 and the rear is 150/70 R17. One thing that doesn’t go well is the presence of alloy wheels and there is no option for spoke wheels as of now. One has to be really careful before performing insane jumps on rough terrains.

The GS is equipped with a taller windscreen for protecting the rider from high-speed wind-blast on the highways reducing helmet buffeting. The rider grip raised handlebars while sitting comfortably in an up-right posture and are high enough for rider to ride while standing on the foot pegs. There is a stepped seat with large dimensions for both the rider and the pillion for sit comfortably over long distances.

On the powertrain front, the G 310 GS is propelled by a reversed inclined, four-stroke, 313cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine breathing through a 4-valve head. This motor develops 33.5 bhp at 9250 rpm and 28 Nm of torque at 7500 rpm. These numbers are similar to that of the G 310 R roadster. Reduction duties are handled by a 6-speed gearbox mated to the motor via a slipper clutch.

BMW G 310 GS

This is an adventure bike but still equipped with one of the smallest fuel tanks in the adventure bikes segment. An 11-litre tank can only provide a riding range of around 320 km in a single tankful considering an average fuel efficiency of 30-32 kmpl. That said, a long tour will result in you waiting on the fuel station more frequently.

BMW G 310 GS comes with a standard saddle height of 835 mm which is not good for shorter riders. And hence, the company offers an option of lower seat height of 815 mm and a higher seat of 855 mm for taller riders.

Similar to that of G 310 R, the GS come with a fully digital LCD instrument cluster that provides a long list of features and readout including a speedometer, tachometer, trip meters, odometer, fuel gauge, gear position indicator etc. What we miss on the bike is a trip computer and Bluetooth connectivity.
