Let’s start this list of best 125cc scooters in India with Hero’s Destini 125. It is third highest selling scooter in the 125cc segment as it offers all the essentials that is a must in a practical family scooter. The sales figures suggest the Destini 125 finds about over ten thousand home every month. It is well behind the Suzuki Access 125 and TVS Ntorq 125 which are its main rivals.
It is available in many colour options – Nexus Blue, Matte Black, Pearl Silver White, Nobel Red, Panther Black, Chestnut Brown and Matte Ray Silver.
Hero updated the Destini 125 with semi-digital instrument panel and programmed fuel injection system with Xsens technology. Apart from these features there is nothing extra that comes with the Destini 125 in the BS6 upgrade.
At the heart of the Hero Destini 125 is an air-cooled, 124.6cc, fuel injected, single cylinder engine featuring a 2-valve head. At one side you have the simple and sober Activa 125 which is only made for mature and family-oriented customer. This particular scooter is a premium version of the Activa 125 and offers features and style keeping fuel economy to the similar level as that of Activa 125.

A fully LED headlight unit is located on the front apron instead of the handlebars to make the scooter look sporty. There is an integrated engine kill switch with starter button. Honda’s new silent start system is also present on the Grazia along with idle-stop system for enhanced fuel savings in the congested city traffic.
There is a pair of telescopic forks at the front with single shock absorber doing the job at the rear. This suspension setup is tuned to comfortable city riding and take on broken roads with ease. The standard variant of the Grazia has drum brakes on both ends and the company is offering a front disc brake for additional price, which is in our opinion a bit steep price tag. TVS Jupiter 125
Jupiter 125 enhances the brand presence in the 125cc commuter segment as company has a sporty scooter Ntorq 125 in the premium segment. It is a new benchmark of the practicality and convenience in the scooter space which is possible because of various innovations and unique craftsmanship. There are four colours on this scooty – Dawn Orange, IndiBlue, Titanium Grey and White.
TVS Jupiter 125 is equipped with an air-cooled, single-cylinder, fuel-injected, 2-valve SOHC, four-stroke engine that displaces 124.8cc. This motor is able to make 8.04 bhp of maximum power at 6500 rpm and 10.5 Nm torque at 4500 rpm. The power figure might not look so great and imposing, but 10.5 Nm torque is the highest torque available on any 125cc commuter scooter.
With peak twisting force available at just 4500 rpm, the initial acceleration offered by the Jupiter 125 will be far stronger than any other commuter scooter in the 125cc segment. There is a CVT transmission which sends power to the rear wheel via a centrifugal clutch. On the Jupiter 110, the CVT gearbox is tuned to offer good acceleration and delivers respectable fuel economy.
The Jupiter 125 is expected to give around 50 kmpl in mixed riding conditions were ridden at economy speed range. It comes with a floor-board mounted 5-litre fuel tank, which can let you ride for around 250 km in a single tankful.
The Jupiter 125 is a commuter scooter from the house of TVS and it is a well-known fact that TVS bikes and scooters have a touch of racing dynamics and it is well-aware on the new Jupiter 125. Suzuki Avenis 125
Suzuki has another scooter in its line-up, the Avenis 125. It is a sportier scooter to tackle the competition from the TVS Ntorq 125 and Yamaha RayZR 125. It design is on the similar grounds with headlamp positioned on the front apron and the head gets a smoked visor that enhances the sporty appeal of the scooter.
It is priced from Rs 87,800 ex-showroom, New Delhi for the standard variant with Bluetooth connectivity feature. The higher variant gets Bluetooth connectivity feature. Suzuki Avenis 125 is powered by a 124cc single-cylinder engine which comes with air-cooling and a 2-valve head. This fuel injected powerplant is tuned to churn out a maximum power of 8.7 bhp at 6750 rpm and a peak twisting force of 10 Nm arriving at 5500 rpm. A peppy performer CVT transmission sends power to the rear wheel.
The fuel efficiency of the Avenis 125 is around 50 kmpl in mixed riding conditions and when multiplied to a 5-litre fuel tank, this sporty scooty can run for 250 km before needing further fuelling.
Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks at the front and single shock absorber at the rear which are perfect for city riding as they are neither too hard nor too soft. Suzuki Burgman Street is the only maxi scooter available in India at present and it shows in the sales of the scooter that we Indians love the maxi scooters as well. The Storm 125 is the most affordable Aprilia scooter available in India. Unlike its elder siblings in the SR series Storm is fitted with a more relaxed riding dynamics and comes with softer suspension setup. This makes it an everyday sporty scooter for Indian city roads and is targeted at rider with GenZ DNA.
Priced at Rs 1,00,666 ex-showroom New Delhi, the Aprilia Storm 125 is a premium and sporty machine with Italian racing DNA. Being a product from Aprilia, the scooter is priced slightly on the higher side when compared to the competition. However, the Storm 125 is a more fun-to-ride peppy scooter from Aprilia while can bring a smile on your face every time you ride it.
Aprilia Storm has its twin-halogen-lamp headlight cluster placed on the front apron with turn indicators embedded on the cowling of the handler. The body of the Storm is a direct lift from the SR 125 with changes made to the graphics and the sure of different colour tones. It comes with 120/70 wide cross-section knobby tyres that offers optimum grip levels on the off-road trails. There are two striking colour options on the Storm 125 – Red and Yellow.
Contrary to the motorcycle-like dynamics on the SR 125, the Storm 125 gets smaller 12-inch wheels which changes the dynamics to that of a scooter. The top speed of this scooty is respectable 90 kmph on long straights.
In terms of fuel efficiency, the Storm 125 with new fuel-injected engine can return about 40 kmpl of mileage on an average riding day. It gets a 6-litre fuel tank capacity that can provide a range of nearly 240 km in a single tankful.

Up next, we have the Aprilia SR 125. It is a sports scooter made for the racing enthusiasts in the urban youth who are under the age of 30. It is a scooter which has the character of a sports commuter bike as it gets larger 14-inch alloy wheels. When compared to the Storm 125, the SR 125 gets larger wheels and stiffer suspension setup. Also, the tyres are road biased and features good grip levels whereas the Storm 125 comes with knobby tyres.
Aprilia SR 125 is propelled by a 124.45 cc, 4-stroke, air-cooled, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine with an advanced 3-valve SOHC head for better breathing. This engine generates 9.8 bhp at 7700 rpm and 9.7 Nm of torque peaking at 6000 rpm. There is a CVT transmission attached to the engine that transfers to the rear wheel through a centrifugal clutch which is tuned to provide strong acceleration.
Performance-wise, the SR 125 can sprint to 60 kmph from zero in around 9 seconds and the motor will pull the SR 125 to a top speed of 90 kmph. Despite the extra price, SR 125 is not too ahead in the performance when compared to the likes of TVS Ntorq 125.
Speaking about the fuel efficiency of the SR 125, the sports scooter from Aprilia can deliver a mileage of about 40 kmpl in mixed riding conditions. With a 6-litre tank capacity, the SR 125 can provide a riding range of nearly 240 in a single tankful.
At the dashboard, the scooter comes equipped with an out-dated all-analogue instrument cluster with speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge. You can also get semi-digital instrument cluster on the SR 125 just by paying a small amount over the price of regular SR 125. There is no provision for mobile charging socket on the scooter and the switchgear is too basic and misses engine kill switch and hazard light switch. There is no external fuel filler cap as available on many other scooters in the 125cc scooter segment.
Coming to the suspension system, there is a pair of telescopic forks up front and the rear is taken care of by spring-loaded shock absorber with hydraulic damper. This setup is tuned towards a stiffer side and offers great sporty performance and the scooter is completely balanced around the corners. The scooter provides motorcycle like riding dynamics as it gets 14-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres. At both ends, the wheels are wrapped with 120/70 section tyres with V-rubber offering optimum grip on the roads.
To bring the SR 125 to a safe halt, there is a 220 mm ventilated disc brake at the front and a drum brake is present at the rear. There is a combined braking system for safer braking performance and good stability under extreme braking scenarios.

As we are nearing the conclusion, we come across most premium and expensive piece of machinery, the Vespa VXL 125. This scooter from Italian Piaggio is a classic scooter with modern elements. Due to its high cost, that in turn caused by expensive manufacturing process and materials, the sales of Vespa scooter are very limited and is concentrated mainly in the metro cities.
Vespa VXL 125 or if you are looking at SXL 125, both the variant of Vespa in 125cc segment are powered by an air-cooled, 124.45 cc, single cylinder engine with a 3-valve head. This fuel injected engine generates 9.78 bhp of max power at 7500 rpm and 9.60 Nm of peak twisting force at 5500 rpm. The engine is paired to a CVT transmission that is tuned for delivering city-oriented performance and also good for highway rides as well. The engine has growling sound which is unique in this scooter segment.
The scooter gets largest fuel tank of 7.4 litres capacity with a range of more than 330 km if you are able to extract a mileage of 45 km per litre. The kerb weight of the Vespa VXL 125 stands at 114 kg and is on par with the competition.
Vespa scooters are sold for their premium quotient and not for the features they offer. The monocoque chassis and premium components is what you are paying for.

Aprilia SXR 125 is the latest scooter from the Italian brand and it is younger sibling to the SXR 160 flagship scooter. The SXR 125 rivals directly with the Suzuki Burgman Street 125 as both these scooters come under 125cc premium scooter segment.
With a price tag of Rs 1.31 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi, the SXR 125 counted among the most expensive 125cc scooter in the country but offered modest specifications and features list. This price tag on the maxi scooter is clearly on a slightly higher side among the others in this segment but the fact that it comes from a premium sport-centric manufacturer, the price can be justifiable by some fanboys. It is available in Red, Black, Blue and White colours for you to choose from.
Starting with the design, the SXR 125 utilises Aprilia’s global design language along with various number of modern and practical features. The company has carefully positioned its all-new offering and expects good sales number in the coming months. The paint job and the striking graphics are one which makes it stand apart from the crowded 125cc scooter segment.
The Aprilia SXR 125 is equipped with Aprilia’s signature three segment headlight assembly which can be spotted on the litre-class superbikes form the Italian brand. This headlight cluster is full LED and has LED DRLs as well for premium appeal. The high beam is located in the centre with low beams are on either side along with the DRLs which are integrated with the front turn indicators. The taillight and rear turn indicators are also stylish LED units providing enhanced road presence from every angle.
Being a full-fledged premium, touring-friendly scooter, the SXR 125 is equipped with important elements including a large windshield at the front providing adequate wind-blast protection at higher speeds on the highway. There is a large, long, well-padded and bucket seat available for the rider which is ergonomically designed for perfect comfort seating. It is carved out of Art leather delivering greater comfort when used for long period of time.
The seat is too long for the pillion to be seated comfortably even after the rider has taken his/her fair share of space. The grab handles are twin-piece unit and are thick enough for easy holding by the pillion. The footpegs of the pillion is retractable that completely hides in the body panel and also look premium and appealing. Footboard between the seat and the inner apron is not so large but is only adequate for the rider to easily place his/her feet however, stretching might seem difficult.
Aprilia SXR 125 is powered by a 4-stroke, BS6 compliant, 124.45 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 3-valve, fuel-injected engine belting out 9.78 bhp of max power at 7700 rpm and 9.7 Nm torque at 6000 rpm. There is a touring-friendly CVT automatic transmission connected to the motor that provides a good pull from standstill to the top speed.
Speaking about the performance, the SXR 125 is sufficiently quick till 60 kmph after which the power began to trail and scooter still manages to touch a top speed of over 90 kmph on a long straight. The acceleration is firm and stays with the rider all the way to around 70 kmph. The cruising speed is pegged between 65 to 70 kmph where the engine feels less strained and composed. Over 70 kmph, overtaking becoming difficult as it takes a lot of time to gather speed beyond this mark.

Unlike the SR 125 and SR 160 which comes with 14-inch wheels, the SXR 125 gets 12-inch wheels but the tyres are wide at 120/70 section at both ends wrapped with MRF rubber offering optimum grip levels.
